Most of the CX-90 reviews are like this nitpicking and complaining but not giving credit earn which Mazda did make phenomenal car

The CX-90 may not be everyones cup of tea, however I do think the proportions from the outside look a lot more like a premium in the Mazda than in the Acura.

CX-90 wins this comparison easily for the following reasons: I-6 > V6. Rear wheel drive platform vs FWD Minivan platform. Superior driving dynamics and equal levels of luxury for far less money.

The CX-90 interior looks luxurious. Don't kid yourself it's a bargain BMW. Yes I agree the first year gremlins like the transmission and PHEV will need to be sorted. And the tight space but otherwise it's a very nice suv for the cheaper price. Cost a bit more than a Lexus UX and so much more car :)

Gotta tell you, you guys are the only reviewers I have ever seen bash the cx90. It almost came off as hate. I have even seen reviewers profusely praise the Mazda to the point of saying they would select over more expensive luxury brands. This review just comes off as strange.

I'm 4 mos. in with my (U.S. spec) CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus and I absolutely love it. Just returned from a 500 mi round-trip and was astounded by the mileage and smooth highway ride. I also acknowledge: the CX-90 has had some first year teething problems, chiefly: a) transmission gear-hunting; b) overly heavy steering calibration. Both issues were especially noticeable at lower speeds. However, both are largely addressed through the recommend no-cost software update! Within the my first month of ownership, I took mine into the dealership, and 'Voila'! - the issues are exponentially better. The transmission's 'clunkiness' has been greatly addressed, and the difference in steering effort was noticeable as soon as I turned out of the dealership. I have to say... whether I agree or disagree, I think some of your observations had some merit. However, the conclusions were baffling. One example: even though you excoriate the MDX for having swaths of "cheap & awful" piano black dashboard trim; you toss the Acura the win on "luxury" because the CX-90 offered an abundance of luxurious appointments(?), to include on-trend al cantara trim... Huh? As a vintage car enthusiast, this review reminded me of how reviewers responded to the Imperial, Chrysler Corporation's attempt to compete in the luxury arena against Cadillac and Lincoln between 1955-75. The Imperial was always the hands-down winner in handling, was often faster, got better mileage, and had unique luxury features (swivel seats, auto-pilot, a record player, etc) that the reviewers loved. Then they'd proceed to berate it because, well... "It just didn't f-e-e-l like a Cadillac." Maybe because.... it wasn't a Cadillac. I got the same vibe here: no matter how amazing the CX-90 may be, it wasn't an 'Acura,' so therefore it isn't, you know... 'part of the smart-set.'

I have the top US trim and started use 93 octane only for fuel and the driving experience is like night and day. High compression engines need high octane gas to perform at their maximum. 93 octane also smooths out the transmission with the engine performing better.

MDX is a smoother ride but the CX-90 does feel like a higher quality vehicle. Acura's fuel economy is terrible in all their SUV's. Our 2021 RDX FWD got 20mpg combined which is garbage for a compact SUV. I'd take the CX-90 of the 2.

If you’re seriously considering these, I’d also recommend checking out the Toyota Grand Highlander’s top trim - the Platinum Hybrid Max here in Canada. The MDX (and other true premium models) will still have the edge in terms of luxury, but it’s a great alternative.

The MDX I built a few minutes ago and came in at $67,000+, and the SH-AWD is a $74,000+ over priced less than luxurious automobile. Hell, I own a 2017 BMW X5 w/91,600 miles and it still blows most people on the freeway, which I love. Using 93 octane from Costco every fillup, really makes this inline six/turbo sing LOUD! The MDX is not a BMW and the price of the SH is equal to the BMW with the options I want, based on my 2017. Mazda dose not have the transmission issues that the Acura has, and they have been "not dealing" with that for decades. The master console control in the Acura is the most ridiculous control I have ever seen and a safety hazard as mentioned in this review,. Not to mention the "bat cave" door opener in the lower middle of the dash. I think someone had to much sake desigining this! My brother has a 2021 CX-9 and it has been a great vehicle. I will not own another BMW due to the Planned Obselence with various "not servicable" parts like the transmission,WTF. The Mazda is about to be test driven this week. The MDX last year and the perofrmance was unimpressive. JMH and researched O!
@legionmartin6 ай бұрын
The main take away is the power to weight ratio between these is significant. The Acura MDX curb weight is 4,503 lbs and it makes 290-355 hp dependent upon trim. The curb weight of the Mazda CX-90 is 4,709 lbs and makes 328 (hybrid) to 340 hp (turbo S) trim. Bottom line, the Acura is going to be quicker.
@EvoJenn4 ай бұрын
The 355HP MDX is about $15,000 more than the top of the line MDX. I think we can all agree the small extra amount of quickness isnt worth it.

The clunky shifter design, transmission issues and harsher ride with the 21" wheels is not nit picky. While I love what Mazda has done in recent years and we currently own a CX-5 Turbo and a 3, I feel like they didn't spend enough time on developing the CX-90 and totally are missing the mark on the CX-70. For that reason I will be looking at the MDX refresh which is supposed to resolve the few interior issues it has...and hopefully they can find a way to eek out a little better fuel economy. The other vehicle I am keeping an eye on this summer/fall is the Toyota Crown Signia.

Just turned in my MDX for a CX90. The drive selector in the Hondas/Acuras is probably one of the worst out there. The MDX transmission while smooth, was an absolute piece of garbage. Downshifting down a hill would actually lurch the car forward. Living on a hill and backing out of my driveway, I would have to wait like 2seconds from reverse back to drive. Worst hill assist I ever experienced. Compared to the RF trans on my BMW it’s infuriating. I use to complain about it everytime I would take in the MDX for service and the mechanics would always laugh because people constantly complain about it.

Acura all the way… Mazda needs to stay in its’ lane . Mazda will never be a luxury brand in my mind. Acura and Lexus are the Japanese kings…and have held their powerful impressions for decades. In order to undergo a paradigm shift it takes decades. I cannot quantify the actual number of years, but know it’s extremely difficult to recondition our minds of a brand that has been around for 40 plus years. Mazda is a mainstream brand in my eyes… maybe more premium but not luxury.

I would take CX-30 over Lexus UX every day (and I did). CX-5 costs half of NX price and arguably drives better..Mazda is not aiming to occupy Lexus territory, it’s a premium alternative to Toyota or Honda but not quite there to compete with Audi or Lexus..It costs much less but still premium. They need to be given enough credit for their engineering work in their products.

Acura and Lexus occupy their space for very good reasons and have held it up for decades.
