To be fair, leaving the checkpoints the way they are (no extra ones) could possibly mean painfully long Gfreds, stretching out to ridiculous running times, especially in the not totally unlikely case of an Unholy Trinity, even with the DNF timer. Not to mention having to fill up all that time with entertaining commentary, so that it generates views. What I'm trying to say is that I'm all for it.

The only problem with multiple checkpoints between the normal ones is that it prohibits alternative lines. Especially for chilliad the OG, Hotlap, and Elevator lines go through very different areas and the midpoint checkpoints would prohibit one of them.

Just add two more on both directions at the pillbox hospital overpass/tunnel, you keep all options open that way

Okay, I got two things for this: - If you get a dump at the quarry like someone joked, then you have to immediately respawn out of it. It's a single player spawn so you can't take it. But also it can't get the airport checkpoint. - You should use this format to make RandomBall. Random Canonballs. Just have somebody go in and place random checkpoints, make like 10 of them, title them all so indistinctively you'd never know which you're getting. Since there's no way to have randomly spawned checkpoints yet

I really like the idea of adding a checkpoint at any routing decision point. Swapping vehicle and having to decide super quick which route to take could spice it up.

You don't have to settle on one variation either. Sometimes do random gfred like this, sometimes do it with more checkpoints. Keep it fresh

I'd keep it like this, I feel like a major part of the GFRED charm is the extremely few checkpoints over long distances. And it builds good anticipation, you know already at the airport whether or not Mt. Chiliad will be a struggle. Feels more like a genuine GFRED, you have to deal with what you get, and have time to have some serious car envy.

My suggestion is two optional respawns: one halfway between quarry and airport, and one halfway between airport and Chiliad. They need to be positioned so that they're difficult to accidentally go through, but you don't lose too much time getting them. This will serve two purposes: 1) Give people an opportunity to change from a vehicle that obviously cannot do a section; 2) Allow people to gamble that they will change into a better vehicle.

The only checkpoint I'd add would be one on Sports Car Road on the way to Chiliad. Because that's such a common place people change out.

I think having one additional checkpoint in between the long sections could help bring the pack together a bit. One on the highway to the airport and one just after sports car road before Chilliad.

A happy medium for doing a random gfred that is still pure .ie keep the same checkpoints, might be to allow people to decide if they want to get out of the vehicle and grab something off the road or stay in what you are in. That way if you get something random thats good then you will stick with it, if you get something slightly slower then traffic it can be 50/50 whether you stick with the random or get something from the traffic, and if you get something awful you can then hop out and drag yourself back up with just traffic vehicles until you get switched at the next random. This way it still stays pure because grabbing traffic vehicles is part of a gfred

I like the idea of Plane off the Hail Mary but consider this. Plane off of the Mountain Line, keep the boats for the Hail Mary. Would that be closer in finish times from the Observatory? Some way to encourage use of the other lines as viable options.

It would be nice to have optional checkpoints that are not mandatory and not on the hot lap route so you can change the car but it costs you time. For example on the sports car road while going towards the airport checkpoint or at the beggining of og chiliad route while going towards chiliad checkpoint

I think having the Vanilla All GFred how it is currently showcases every players endurance if they get a good or bad vehicle maybe as a suggestion you could have a change at a Random spot to chilliad or the highway like it happens unexpectedly at first where it's added

Checkpoint on sports car road to mimic the traditional car change location. If you could do an optional checkpoint there as well, before the airport, that would give people in slow cars an opportunity to peel off early and try their luck.

You can have secondary checkpoints with random transforming on both right? Then you could add a gambling/tactics element by adding a checkpoint closer to the start of the highway and more towards the end, giving the possibility of changing early or late!

I enjoyed this at it was but would be keen to see one with more checkpoints. Maybe one at Zancudo, one when you come off the highway on the way to Chilliad. One at the transitions to Chilliad (one on train tracks, one on old route and one on newer route maybe?)

A check point between each normal check point Water - run vehicle - highway to quarry - quarry to city - city to airport - airport to sports car road - SCR to chilliad - chilliad to observatory (only normal) - observatory to water - water to island

Here's an idea if possible, have extra linked checkpoints, but only have one be off the normal gfred line so they can "change" their car in a gamble, and for those who dont go do that just happen to pick up 2 checkpoints at once in the normal locations. So for example and extra checkpoint heading towards the airport, on sports car road if someone wants to gamble for a better car. Could also do that with someone going the normal chilliad route vs the OG highway route

Additional checkpoints just on the run to the airport and back would be good, it's a long stretch and there are no alternate lines that are impacted. The rest you'll have to leave alone likely due to multiple variations of lines.

I would personally say add 2 checkpoints, one between the quarry and the airport, and one between the airport and chiliad, the only reason I say this is because as someone who has driven a dozer and an airtug from the airport to chiliad, it is really slow and sucks all of the fun out of the race because you essentially know you've got no chance of winning

If adding checkpoints I'd say: -keep the existing extra one one at the highway -between quarry/airport add one on the highway before the city -between airport/chilliad add one on sports car road -between chilliad/observatory add one after coming off the train tracks -between observatory/finish line add one in zancudo

intresting concept, maybe a few checkpoints should be added to make it a bit more balanced, like one between quarry and airport when you enter the city and one when you are going to chilliad, maybe just before sportscar road so that it wouldn't forbid alternative routes which I think is very important. The other checkpoints are too close to each other to put another one in the middle imo.

I don't know if this is possible/can be made possible but if we could have optional changes that would be incredible! Imagine you get a Itali GTO. You wouldn't want to have to swap that right? But if you're in a dozer you would want to swap asap. If it could be done, extra checkpoints along the path, where one is a random change and one is no change, would be amazing.

i'd see a checkpoint on the entrance and exit of the city on the highway that way you could have a slow highway section into fast city section or vice versa at the exit because you could then know which route to take up chilliad depending on the random vehicle

I think if you're going to put in extra checkpoints, they should be optional. Have it as a proper gamble for if you get any of the Unholy Trinity or not, but not a definitive thing so people who are doing well won't be forced into a bad spot.

Great Idea, great video. Is it possible to have "themed" car selection between each checkpoint. Like 4x4/Truck for chiliad, sport/super for highways, bikes for the lighthouse start something fun and construction oriented for quarry and so on Personally would prefer more checkpoints so you can select cars, so that everything is possible and still got a decent variation allows better balancing and still allows patches with full random if you want to

if you cant go on foot then you have a decent chance to get softlocked if your vehicle cant make it up chilliad, like the lawn mover or one of the caddies or something. even the journey might not be possible

One thing that could be a lot of fun (but idk if that would be possible) would be to use the option for multiple paths for the several Chiliad lines and add middle checkpoints for each of these lines. Let's say you have the airport checkpoint, then you'd have one at the casino where all lines for Chiliad transition (that part of the highway where you exit for sports car road or where you head up straight for OG route). And then for each line there would be another checkpoint between that casino transition and the Chiliad checkpoint. The idea would be to decide which way to go with the car you get at casino but it would also be a gambling game. For example, if for the casino transition, there would be several possibilities : - you get a good car at the casino : you can go for one of the fastest but riskier line. But for the checkpoint between the casino and Chiliad (let's say maybe at the crossing point of sports car road and Route 66) either you get a great car and you either go for Hotlap or Middle, or you get a good car and go for Middle, or you get a bad one and you're in trouble for the ascent, you've gotten unlucky or lost the gamble - you get a bad car at the casino : either you go safe with the OG route but if you get a great car between casino and Chiliad then you've just lost time, or you go for the gamble, you still go for the better riskier lines and you gamble on getting a good car again for the chiliad ascent (or you get screwed once and for all if you get another bad car) I don't know if that's really clear the way I put it, but I think it would bring some fun with an added dose of gambling to the random process. But as I said idk if that would be possible to introduce even with the multiple paths option in the Creator. (also I expose this concept for Airport to Chiliad, but it could also be used for the other places where lines can differ, like the Parachute jump for instance)

In my opinion, I feel like this was pretty well done. The only thing I'd like to see different is, like you said on the highway, maybe 3ish additional checkpoints between the original checkpoints. As funny as it would be for someone to get a dozer at the quarry and have to drive it all the way down to the airport it would suck and their race would be 100% a dnf.

I feel like the argument of their only being 6 car changes is kind of moot since in normal gfreds people don't change cars 6 times anyway. Having said that you could add optional vehicle changes(I don't know if that's a thing) so if you say get a terrible car getting out the water you could opt to go off route by a minor a distance and have an extra shot at a better car, similarly at the quarry and airport etc. Like have an extra change point similarly like going off route to sports car road. Also checkpoints would have to be shared between the multiple routes up Mt chiliad aswell.

helicopter checkpoint should be at the dock at the beginning to fly up the cliff to get another land checkpoint. would be much cleaner than forcing the boats to make a sharp turn right in front of the cliff and then awkwardly navigate the rocks and shallow water

Trashmaster isn't bad but if you really want to impress on driving skill do that in the POS Post Op, Lawn mower, or especially the Dozer. Those three would be a nightmare up chiliad. The deer committing suicide into the side of your truck just reminded me of a similar situation that happened to me back in my USAF days at Edwards AFB. There are a zillion rabbits out there and one of them decided to Darwin Award himself into the side of my rental vehicle. It managed to hit in the front left wheel well and that was it for that rabbit. Came in straight from the side. It had committed itself to getting across that road in front of me no matter what and failed.

Can you make parallel checkpoints in the creator, where one is normal and the other is random? You could split at common vehicle pickups on each leg, for instance have a standard checkpoint on the highway and a random on sportscar road, so you have to choose to keep what you have or gamble on something better.

More checkpoints should be tried, but I think Random Gfred could also work well with removing vehicles that cannot actually complete the race at some point (cannot reach either the airport or chilliad checkpoints), because there are plenty of vehicles that can phisically make it and are still painful enough to give the random eperience. Actually, maybe the doser can make it, but it should still be removed.
