Back when life was awful for us we slept in our car and it was next to a train track (it was pitch black and couldn't see) and my husband slept right through the trains going by blaring their horns .

I'm from Louisiana, I live around the Atchafalaya Basin (Uh-chah-fuh-lie-yuh), and ABSOLUTELY there are people in thr swamp at 130 in the morning. Why? Prime time to go frigging (catch large bullfrogs because in our culture -Cajun Culture- frog legs are part of our cuisine. Fishermen, trappers, crawfish farmers/trappers, even hunters can be in the swamp in the middle of the night. Or it could have been people traveling out to their camps. Yes, we have hunting/fishing camps in the swamps. We are home in the swamp, we hunt gators, too. It's not uncommon for our people to be in the swamps at any time of the day or night. Some of the older folks, and younger, even live out there because we have all been raised, since our great-grands, to live off the land. And alot of us prefer to live out in nature, especially during these times because the world is just crazy and it's pure serenity out in the swamps/woods. I can't even count the number of nights, weeks on end, I lived at our camp right smack in the middle of the marsh. Had you been passing through the Atchafalaya Basin in the day, you could have seen a few deer stands in the woods and/or duck blinds in the swamp.. it's our culture, it's in our blood... I wouldn't want to have been raised any other way and I've been a part of nature's pure beauty and anger many times my 36 years on this beautiful Louisiana territory. There's more to Cajun folks than just Mardi Gras, New Orleans (N.O. is actually Creole, not Cajun - very similar but different cultures, although we all speak French), and Hurricanes. If yall have ever watched Swamp People on the History Channel, that's a perfect viewing of Cajun folk who've made their lives in the Swamp Lands. But... there's also the Rougarou (Cajun Werewolf) who lives in the swamps. Rougarou is the Cajun-French way to say werewolf.. in Canadian French it's Loup Garoux which loosely translated means man changed to wolf. Loup means wolf and Garoux is man changed. Although the Rougarou would not have had lights, he could have been near the lights which were probably men/women with flashlights or spotlights moving through the swamp. 😊

I can’t help but wonder why all the girls are taking trains to go see boyfriends. If those boyfriends couldn’t be bothered to make the trip…. I wouldn’t either! 😅
