I knew someone who had been a quad for 30+ years. She lead an amazingly active life. However, she had to deal with multiple health issues. When she decided enough was enough, I was able to talk with her before her care was withdrawn. She stated , that she had an amazing life despite everything, that she would remember everyone who cared for her, but she was tired. That was over 2 years ago, and I think of her alot. Wherever you are Lori, I hope you are able to run again, and that you found what you are looking for. May we meet again someday.

Even though he ended his life I can totally relate to that. I lost my beloved husband over 3 years now due to cancer. I miss him dearly but I understand that he's not in pain anymore. God relieved him from that. I did my duty as a wife and cared for him and was honoured to do that for my darling husband.

You say this is a true story it is the saddest it just makes you cry, because she was so sincere and her nature you could believe that she would always be there for him, and in reality it was selfishness on his part, but he was kind to take care of her financially
@margaretaddley5113 Жыл бұрын
For those who think it's selfish of him - it's not. I lost my husband last September just turned 65. Most days he was in pain and bed bound in last two years. As much as I love him and wish him back. He is now out of pain exploring the galaxy. This story has made me think I need to try and live good life.
@winniejohnson5559 Жыл бұрын
it was selfish but i do understand. i can't judge him but it was definetly selfish. before anyone says well i am judging, i am not deciding whether he was a good or bad person . i am a God fearing person. Life is a gift from God. so he decided to end his life because he couldn't live they way he lived before. his actions hurt people that loved him. however it doesn't make him a bad person.
@magnoliamystery1288 Жыл бұрын
@@winniejohnson5559 I agree, personally I feel that his love for Louisa was not strong. He may have appreciated her and cared about her on a deep level but he was not in love with her. She wasn’t even the type of woman he’s normally attracted to (c‘mon look at his ex). He only entertained romance with her because she was a convenience to him (always around) so of course a connection was bound to happen especially since his ex married his best friend. He chose to die rather than spend the rest of his life with Louisa 😕ouch. I bet if his girlfriend had stayed with him and accepted his proposal even with him being in a wheelchair the thought of killing himself would not be an option. Just my pov though.

It's not that he doesn't think of the loss that they will feel when he is gone, however, he is in so much pain that, that relief is what he thinks of most. He loves her and wants to be a man like he was before the accident, to be completely able to give Lou love in the way that he wants and needs to. There is unfortunately, no way for him to get better, only worse over time.

This movie really struck a nerve with me February 2023 I lost all four of my limbs to a strep infection that was in my blood. They were literally eaten from the inside out and they had to amputate, I can understand how he felt and I myself went through the same emotions. I am a chemistry teacher and I’ll eventually get prosthetics and hopefully I’ll get back to work. I understand being in a world that you can’t interact with. I’ve been healing for 11 months honestly though I found a reason to live I have my students that I want to get back to and I have a two-year-old daughter and a wife. I’m sad he didn’t find a good enough reason to live, but I understand.

My opinion: Many people, maybe most, think Will is selfish for ending his life. But for him to continue, he'd have to be entirely selfless to choose other people's wishes over his daily suffering. If you've never wished to be dead, you WON'T understand, therefore, how dare you judge. And consider yourself very blessed that you do not understand. We, as people, think no one should be so selfish. But I think - I hope - most of us also know that too much selflessness is detrimental. It's "toxic," in today's words. Noone 'should' expect him to be so selfless that he endures deep, daily agony (emotional agony, which is shockingly similar to physical agony); nor do we believe he should be so "selfish" to continue life soley for the satsfaction of others around him. So, what do you want from him? I'm not supporting suicide, however; in this particular case, I cannot judge either. I am not paralyzed after living 30 years free and active. To me, this "assisted suicide" situation where one's quality of life has plummetted due to irreparable health is kind of like the argument of "who do you let die: the ill mother giving birth or the unborn child?" Neither are happy endings.

Hmmm… your opinion truly shook me to the core. I do not support assisted suicide but I see the point in which you’re coming from. I too will not judge will as no one could ever truly know what a person is going through. No matter how much you love someone you’re still your own person.

Will is not selfish and he was truly an authentic guy, hoping the best for the people around him, maybe for the sake of himself too he took this horrible decision of ending his life. Do you know even in clinical trails in research, Animals are tested with different medicines for research studies, as a result they will get cancerous tumours or illnessses with so much of pain like paralysis, blindness etc. such animals will undergo euthanasia (ending lives) as per scientific protocols n guidelines in order to free them from so much of pain and illness that they cant endure. Same applies for humans to, its a individual choice. Will wants to see her living a better life, he might thiught that he could not satisfy her with his illness, and cant see her mom n dad miserable by thinking of his disabled son everytime he sees them, he has facing unbearable pain bcoz of his illness, so when doctors already revealed that he had no good hopes on his life, maybe becoz of all this and for everyone's happiness he took this brave decision, one need guts to end their life for others sake.

He did the right thing. He did not want to live like that after being so alive and vital before. He did not want to make his parents live an unhappy life burdened by him. He did not want to doom Louisa to a life burdened by him, even though it would not have been too hard, since he was rich and could afford the care. He did the sensible thing, which most people are not able to do. A good death is preferable to a miserable life. Don't fall for the sentimental slush that Hollywood would have you accept.
