To be honest, I’m a Ford fan like that one guy was a dodge fan. Won’t ever drive anything but a Ford. However, there’s no denying the historisity of all that impressive equipment. The first test mule is so significant. And those paint jobs are something else altogether. Thanks Evan.

Same here, and even though Fords and Mercs are not shown here the 68 Hemi's are very cool. Having Buddy Martin and Herb McCandless there is great. I was a fan of those cars when they were far less popular at races. DeFrank and Cohen, Allyn Lee and scant few others were all we saw out west Bucky is a real cool guy, met him when he came out west to a Hemi Shootout at Mission Raceway with the Bartons to take on Harry Holton and Jerry Jenkins and others.

Wow, there's so much to unpack from this video. Seeing the actual Mule Hurst/Hemi Barracuda is like seeing a ghost... Also terrific to see (and listen to) Dave Hakim; Dave is extremely well-known in Mopar circles. My late father, Larry Henry, introduced me to Dave decades ago. Thank you for sharing this fantastic content.

I remember when these cars were new. Jack Arnew raced one of the 6 purchased by Sox and Martin. Jack's car was the only S and M car that the bill of sale was not in Buddy Martin's name. The B of S was in Sam Pannuty's name. The Cudas, Darts, 428 Mustangs, and the 427 Camaros were the next page in the history of Drag Racing. Great video. 👍

HEMI ENGINEERS- THE LOST INTERVIEWS P1 is an interview with Tom Hoover about getting the Hemi developed/tested and ready for the Daytona 500. P 2 is the interview with Bill Weertman. He's another engineer who was part of the development. These are also MUST SEE vids. This is the stuff a car guy could watch all day long. 👍👍

My wish had always been to own a Race Hemi. Cost would never let me own a real one, so I built my my own Tribute to the 1965 Plymouth Belvedere cars. There is no bigger thrill than dropping the clutch on one of these monsters. There are 2 types of Hemi people, those that want one & those that Own one.

great video Evan! im a Ford guy at heart you know that, but Hemi's are pretty special. good to see a couple Detroit cars there with the Gratiot auto supply Dart and the Motech Barracuda ive seen both cars racing as a kid at Milan Dragway and Detroit Dragway. ill never forget being at Milan and my Dad clueing me in on the distinct sound of a Hemi car and how they didnt sound like anything else. being involded in the Detroit street racing scene since the early 70's there were truly some legendary Hemi street cars here with the Silver Bullet of course, but also the Tar baby GTX, Rat poison Belvedere, and the Rat Patrol Fury. i got to see some great races back then thankfully my parents didnt believe in baby sitters when they went cruising to the street races on Gratiot or Telegraph, lol. and no, the Black Ghost wasntvaround, thats a fake story.

HEMI ❤ I was the 3rd owner of a’68 Dart. Bought it in Pro Stick trim in fall of 1971, from Bob Lambeck. Destroyed the engine 1st time out but with a lot of help from the West Coast Hemi guys and friends was able to get an engine together with significantly more power in late summer of’72. Was able to run high 8.40’s to low 9.50’s at 143+ mph. The biggest mistake I made in racing was selling it as Modified Production car in ‘76 ish for $7,000

I never knew about the mule, would've guessed the skunkworks would've had the lightest Valiant 2-door post in mind and they'd gone to Barracuda fastbacks once Plymouth Marketing got wind, after which the Dodge Boys would nose in...that's how it usually seems to have worked.

This car DID NOT start as a 1967. That's incorrect info. The fender tag still on it says 1968. It came from the Chrysler motor pool: "Car# 139" The mule car was designed by engineer Bob Tarozzi. Doors and front bumper was stamped in thinner metal. Not acid dipped. Tarozzi states It took two sheets of metal to make one original front bumper. Those are NOT Porsche seats either.
