@@himeraji having tested both ... price wise TRN, and i doubt what Fiio claim that they custom ordered the chipset to be tuned specially for their IEMs is real, because aside a little floor noise (barely perceptible) the quality of sound is quite alike on my FA1 and FH5 i had one little issue with the right module MMCX connector on the TRN, so i'd say the Fiio might have better fitting the rest is all the same save for the branding and i do not think it is worth almost 4 time the price (in my country a UTWS-1 is 80$~ and i paid the BT20S 25$ on AliExpress) if going TRN for price value be sure to take the S because the BT20 is the older model. (so best come down to beliefs in the brand and their claim they tweaked the OEM model to be better .... and the price locally/online) although i completely put both set and Fiio IEMs aside since i bought a Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro lately ... sound just as good as the FH5 and more practical than 2 "pseudo TWS" little dongle

I am a beginner so thank you for your review on both. It confirms what I was suspecting: no big differences between them. I also saw the FOSTEX TM2 but it's much more expensive xD, I would like to try them but I will wait... Right now, I have AirPods, that's nice for the daily life x)

I made a ksc75 mod using mmcx connectors and these, sadly the hooks arent stiff enough to hold the ksc in place. Now im using the stock hooks and let the utws1 sit behind my ear. Works great this way.

True wireless earbuds aren't aimed at audiophiles. They're aimed at the average person that wants to be able to carry around a way to listen to music without fiddling with wires, and fits in their pocket easily. Obviously, just about any other use of >$100 could result in better audio quality. That's not what a lot of people are asking for, though. Buying an mmcx iem, then another adapter, then charging each side independently, and having to turn each one on before usage is not a direct comparison to a auto-wake, with a charging case. Plus, a lot of people charge their true wireless along with their phone at night. Its a good solution for a lot of people, and i dont think anyone should feel bad about prioritizing convenience over audio quality if they have the money for them.

I've always used my KZ Z10S Pro or Tin P1s (before I sent them back) with a Dragonfly Black at the office and switched it up from time to time to my Sennheiser PXC 550 but recieved the Galaxy Buds+ with my new smartphone (Galaxy S20+) for free. Not going to lie... The audio quality isn't on the same level but the convinience makes me use them much more than I thought I would. I was sure I was going to sell them straight away but after trying them out I've got to admit, TWIEMs are pretty awesome for their convinience.

I spent a long time looking at TWS IEMs watching a lot of reviews and couldn't decide on one because I knew it would be a compromise on sound and since they would live in my pockets I would use them more than my favorite iem's and I didn't want to do that. So, when I saw the Fostex option I was excited until i saw the price and said it was a no go. When Z reviewed this I decided this is a no brainier. Now I have my favorite IEM's on the UTWS1 and I couldn't be any happier. For a total of $345.00 I have the Audiosense T800 UTWS1 and no compromise. They come with me everywhere and I get to listen to my extremely good iem's more often. In no way a major brand iem compete with this set up. I've tried TOTL tws iems from Bose Apple Sennheiser Sony etc... and they can even compete with my KZ ZS10 PRO much less my T800's. And on top of that many of them make you look ridiculous. And until Audiophile iem manufacturers start building TWS versions of their iem there will be no competition for this kind of setup. BTW they work great for calls as well

@Never a Dull Moment I get what you mean, but the problem lies with "Why can't we have both?" The convenience of true wireless, charging case and everything included, except- it's interchangeable? Do we simply not have the technology yet? Seems like with the Shure AONIC's and their Secure Fit True Wireless adapter that the technology already exists, it is costly however, but you're not bound to a single pair of earphone/IEM's so you can have quality with convenience. Question is, why aren't more companies going this direction? Is it because IEMs are just not very common items even before the Tide Pods from apple? Sure, we all know quality IEMs aren't/weren't exactly cheap, but it rubs me the wrong way that people are more than willing to shell out money for shitty quality true wireless earphones yet weren't willing enough to spend the same amount of money before for a good, quality pair of IEMs.

I've spent a decent length of time with the Shure AONIC 215s (USD $249), and they are fantastic. Decent sound for the money, great isolation, great battery life, and incredible in-built microphones for environment mode and of course for making phonecalls. The Shure True Fit Wireless Adapter (USD $199) will be available a standalone accessory, and litterally addresses every negative point that you made about the FiiO adapter (noise floor, charging case etc.) making it a great premium alternative to the FiiO adapter.

“Spend more get less” really sums up wireless IEMS at this point, ont get me wrong I won song XM3 and they are very convinient but as Z said I dont want to listen to them, I only ever pick them up when I’m either going to uni or work or going for a run. When I use an IEM for music I wanna listen to my fiio fh5 or my tin t2 or my KZ earphones I don’t wanna listen to my wireless Sony’s because they just don’t sound as good, and I’ve been told that those Sony’s are about as good as it gets for an IEM sound wise in 2020 so. One day wireless IEMS will sound just as good as wires ones but the engineering and the technology just is not there yet

Thanks Zeos, I bought these after watching your rant. I had the excellent for their price Advanced Audio Model 3 with the bluetooth module and when the charging port on that started to fail I really needed something that allowed me to use any future earphone purchase wirelessly. You really saved me because I was about to drop some money and be locked into the sound of a specific set of TWS. Now at least I'll be able to enjoy my Tin P1 and T2 when I feel like it.

(disabled vet on very limited budget) Finally upgraded (after a year of saving) to the iphone 11 from my 6s+ and you have saved my life. This is just a rebadged TRN BT20S. Fiio have done nothing other than change the outer housing styling a little. The BT20S is cheaper and has a 2 pin versions in addition to MMCX.

I use the TRN BT20S (released first, BTW, not the other way around), paired with Jade Audio EA3....superb combo for ~ $85 total, with secure fit while jogging. I've tried them with BLON BL-03, KZ ZS10 Pro, and QKZ VK4, but I found the EA3 to have the best combo of SQ, flat footprint, and secure fit for _my_ ears. Caveat...to loosen the pull from the hooked cable, I curled them backward for a few seconds; much more comfy.

Fiio do technically have a LDAC solution now, but it's a neckband design. Unlike this tws one it has both 2 pin and mmcx, It's got a nice DAC as well. Ngl it sounds kinda nice.

Recently bought the KZ AZ09 PRO bluetooth hooks (US$37) for my IEM's...KZ ZS10 Pro's ($33) & CCA NRA's ($18). My new favorite combos. An IEM hybrid with true wireless BT5.2 Aptx HD, plug and play! Clear. Excellent sound quality with good IEM's. LONG battery life too. Must get the PRO version, not the regular one. PRO does not have any connectivity issues and supports HD Aptx, AAC, SBC. QCC 3040 chip - BT 5.2. Will work with one or both ear-loops too/TWS+. Fits any 2-pin 75 (QDC) or 78mm IEM (B style plug). 8 hours on a single charge, 48 hrs with case. CVC noise reduction and good call quality. Sweatproof. My new favorites...been using them in the office/home office. Still prefer the ANC earbuds while travelling (i.e. Earfun Free Pro's, Soundcore Life P3's). The receivers/batteries/manual controls fit behind the ear...but they are really comfortable for me. Buttons are behind my earlobes and convenient to access. Paired with the right IEM, they are my favs. As for magnetic clips...which I use with the KZ HD Aptx BT5.2 cable ($20)...go for these on AliEx: "6 pcs Magnetic Cable Clips Magnetic Cable Organizers Twist Ties Earbuds Cords Winder USB Cable Manager Bookmark Clips 6 Colors" ~$5.40. These rubberized magnetic clips match the cable perfectly AND with their little loop capture the cable while clipping magnetically to my shirt collar. By doing so, the cable never slips off when the IEM's are hanging around my neck AND the clip holds the mic/receiver in an optimal position at all times.

The Fiios/TRN's don't need a charging case. Apple has controlled the conversation long enough to brainwash us to ignore that it's stupid and inconvenient to be forced to stop listening to your IEM's whenever they run out of battery power in order to charge them. If Fiio or TRN provided a longer double ended USB charging cable, that essentially means you could keep listening even as you charge your IEM's. How can it be a disadvantage to have to use a "wired" IEM for a few mins of charging, compared to being forced to put your IEM's away for charging?

I agree 100%, I've tried several tws products, always coming back to my shures and westones due to their poor sound quality. It's not about being an audiophile, it's about appreciating and enjoying the musical presentation. Anyway your prayers have been answered, fiio has advanced from the model T to a 50s Cadillac. They've included separate amplifiers to make them more iem friendly, added a charging case with auto pairing convenience and a phone app which supports eq and FW updates. There are still drawbacks however. The case is huge and I fear it will make the experience more cumbersome than it needs to be. I don't have them yet, it will take 6 weeks for the AliExpress order to come. They are utws3 and sell for 79.99, order yours today.

Forget the Fiios, you can get the TRN BT20S that has the exact same chip inside, is the same shape, comes in three different connectors (so you can get one for BL03s/KZs/etc.), has the same battery life, etc. But for less money. I don't know if TRN is the OEM for the Fiio UTWS1, or if they use the same OEM, but as far as I can tell they're identical aside from the logo and the Fiio has a chrome surround on the buttons. The BT20S and the UTWS1 are most likely made in the same factory, but they're made to slightly different specs, which is something Chinese factories do a lot.

Whats bad about TWS is.... Once the battery degradates, the only thing you can do is chug the whole thing, perfectly good driver and amp and chops inside included, to the garbage bin. I much prefer to just buy a wireless adapter and connect it to my 2pin/MMCX terminated IEMs For now i have an Audio Technica E40 attached to a neckband adapter, it costed 10usd. Used ut a ton for day to day riding up and down my town. I prefert he soound of it to any TWS i've heard, the Sony included (pre EQ'd)

Those buds prob just have like 80 mAh in each side, then they have custom oarts with custon connections, Theres a reason the airpod get very low score in iFixIt. TWS is expensive and they have limited usage time. 90+ % of proper headphone doesnt have that limit.

Not sure if it was just me but I went to test those fiio bt things at my local audio shop, and it changed how my iems sounded (bgvp dmg) so I didn't like them. So I agree with Z, it's the future but it might take a while before someone gets it perfectly right. Which is why I'd probably still go for tws mifo o7

Pretty sure Trn is the OEM and FiiO is licensing the right to use the BT20s platform (or whatever revision they’re on) for the UTWS1. There’s no actual IP “theft” going on. Agree it’s not quite on the level it needs to be with usability compared to the competition. I’d love to see them improve their noise cancelling app as well as add it to their whole wireless line, like with this. The price increase would be worth it imho.

What your rant points out is that there’s a terrible lack of SHORT IEM cables to go from IEM to EarStudio or BTR5 clipped at shirt pocket level. Particularly in balanced versions.

I know that you are hate reviewing true wireless, but I really think you would like the Klipsch t5 true wireless. The only problem that they had was they stuck out too far from your ears, however, if you put on a foam tip it gets rid of that problem.

TWS has its place, its the best in convenience, bar none, even my 60+ YO father that likes grado and Audio Technica admits that the WF-1000XM3 sounds good and are the most comfortable in ear he ever used.

@The Crimson Drummer the WF has 2 volume control, one from the source the other on the IEM itself, if you connect it to a rudimentary bluetooth source. Like ie your DAP, They cant make use of the proper volume control as the DAP settings make the WF get stuck in low volume settings, the way to fix this is by havibg the WF updated to the latest FW, which adds volume control to the buds itself, you can and should up the volume on the buds after you add appropriate volume from the source. Maybe the WF you tried is fresh off the box for the convention, so it has stock release FW, or its new but the one manning the stand didnt put it with the volume control setting from the IEM's app settings. So yeah that's that.

Speaking as someone that owns the Anker Soundcore TWS earbuds, you are absolutely wrong. People buying TWS right now don't care about audio quality or price. They're average consumers that just want something that works and is convenient. The Soundcores I have were $55 and sound fine. Yeah, they're not great sounding or anything, but for working out at the gym they're better than anything with a wire because there's nothing bouncing around that can get caught on equipment or annoy me. I have a bunch of wired IEMs that sound way better than the Soundcores, but at this point, you couldn't pay me to use them on the go. TWS exists to replace the crappy earbuds that come with phones. They're not trying to be audiophile gear. The only reason they're expensive (they're actually not, the Soundcores again are $55) is because they're new. Eventually, we'll be seeing the same kind of surge in quality we've seen in general headphones the last 10 years in TWS systems. Eventually, there will be a plethora of choices in every price range, etc. I mean just look at all the stupid hoops you're jumping through to use your preferred IEMs with the FIIO system. You have to buy the FIIOs, a pair of IEMs with a detachable cable, some dumbass connection adapters. And in exchange, yeah, you get the IEMs you like. But you also don't get a convenient charging case or an all-in-one system with fewer parts to lose or break. By the time you add up all the extra stuff you've bought, you've probably paid more than if you had just bought TWS earbuds. I'm an audiophile. I prefer standalone dacs, amps, and quality headphones. But people like us aren't who TWS earbuds are for. They're for people that just care about convenience. If your solution was what people wanted, they'd be the most popular option. People want to deal with less bullshit, not more. I totally agree that your solution offers the superior audio experience. But if people cared about audio, we would still have headphone jacks on everything and phones wouldn't come with dumpster fire IEMs.

This solution isn't popular because it just started being a solution. THIS is ground Zero and the only way to populate it is to stand up for it. I will probably lose money pushing for this over all the TWS that is out there but at least I won't lose sleep. VIVA LA UTWS!

Most people won't see or understand the practical benefits of using the FIIOs. This video exists to serve people like us more than it does to convince avergae joe to ditch their airpods. Only reason I prefer the ones that are connected together by a short wire is because I can pop one out and just let go and it hangs from my shoulder. More useful than you may think.

I am so glad you clued us in on this at the ($10) chat before Chinese New Year. With the Coronavirus outbreak slowing down electronics production, it'll be a while before they come back into stock again. In fact, the official Fiio store on Aliexpress (which is where I bought it) no longer lists the product which is wild. Mine's finally arriving this week, which is par the course for an Aliexpress order. Gonna rock it with my OH10.

The problem is that these two types of tws will be heavily dependent on the consumer. The tws with the case are for the casuals which does not really have audiophile grade earphones. They would rather have a bluetooth headphone that is already included with the purchase rather than an adapter making earphones bluetooth. Let us face it that most casual listeners use wired earphones without mmcx/2 pin connectivity but rather are fixed. Two different types of market but yeah Id rather have an adapter so that I could use my tins

Not even different consumers, more like different use cases. When I'm out and about, I don't need the best audio quality, I need convenience. I don't want to deal with $100 in adapters and accessories to get an old iem to work with half the functionality of a TWS. I just want an all in one package that can play background music when while I'm doing stuff and seamlessly handle phone calls. I have better listening options when I want to actually hear music.

28:26 some people might think this point moot, but Z, you are 💯 percent correct. If you’re hiking or even grocery shopping you definitely afforded the ability to not be inconvenienced by having to take your device out and interact with it. For $300+ it should link with me telekinetically. I don't think it is the type of noise cancellation we are thinking. It might be noise mitigation from the amp inside.

Jeronimo Stupenengo Pefaur Nope. Telepathy implies that the BT adapters would have a mind to talk to. One that was equal to a human mind. Even with both being science fiction, I think telekinesis fits best. (To elaborate: I would some how manipulate the BT waves in order to mimic the exact signal as “track skip” 🤷🏻‍♂️ yeah I know 🙄😒 I thought way too much about it)

Zeos is the only reviewer of all things audio that I watch. I watch every second of his vids too. Just watched every second of this one. He is the best...period, end of story, game over. So TY for yet another great review Z. That said, It's been a year now. Have they come out with an updated version of these now or another brand that's even better? I saw a UTSW3 on amazon that was $500! I don't call that an upgrade over these. That's like having the model T and going to a Rolls Royce. Lol

Another issue with TWS is their disposable design. All those non-replaceable batteries will die and those drivers will go in the landfill. I'm going with a Fiio or Shanling neckband until that Fiio v2.

I bought Mezone TWS-B6, the deeper base version. They use a aptX Codec and sound amazing. Eventhough they are very basey (which i adjusted with a little EQ) the range and clarity is amazong for that price. They also are very stealthy... Just a little knob, subtle glow... overall very comfy. I would love to hear what you say about those. I love them.

FYI, just got my set in from aliexpress. Mine came with a nice little case that holds them with IEMs attached and the cable too. There is a very slight hiss when there is no audio coming through but after a few seconds the amp cuts out to total silence until audio resumes. Overall I am very happy with them.

Please Dekoni give me the airpod pro tips ASAP. Apple's are "okay" but I want that audiophile grade attention to detail and fit. The airpod pro's are incredibly convenient and as my job forces me to take phone calls and meetings at inconvenient times the fact that the pros charge wirelessly and are always ready in my pocket is a game changer. I just bought the Fiio to try out for the gym because honestly I want better quality audio when I workout. That may seem silly but I've been using Shure 535's on a cable for years and having that high quality experience helps me get through workouts, the airpod pros are just an tangible amount short there.
