He didn't chase fame alone. He has a passion for making good music. He doesn't want to play smoke on the water and highway star every single day of his life for 50-60 years. Nor does he want to only play Stargazer or Gates of Babylon every day of his life for the rest of it. Can he still play those songs, yes; this is evident by him playing Child in Time here but especially back in Deep Purple days he was almost owned. I have heard it said once that the worst punishment for a band getting famous for one song is now having to play it until you are absolutely sick of hearing it again. I think that happened for Ritchie both in the mid 70s with Deep Purple and in the early 80s with Rainbow. By the mid 90s he wanted a change of pace.

Its actually harder to play the old stuff on acoustic anyways because of the action and fingerboard size. I also admire that he's pushing in different directions and challenging himself. He plays so beautifully and accurately with amazing improv skills....musically the guy can recover quicker than an alleycat falling off a roof ;-)

Loved this. Child In Time has always been my favorite Deep Purple song, and this rendition was very interesting.

That was my favorite instrumental composition by Blackmores'Night when I was 17 years old, at that time I only had my clasical guitar and tape recorder, no computer! No Tabs! I used only my ears and fingers to find the right notes on the neck of the guitar to be able to start to play this song! 😎🎸

Richie proved in his own way that he is cooler than Ian Gillan, after leaving Deep Purple he created Rainbow, then Blackmore's Night. Ian is also cool in his own way, but he still remains in the same genre.

Something I noticed, beyond music, which has nothing to be discussed when Blackmore is the main event. Just lay back, enjoy n be proud u lived and shyred time on Earth with such unreapitable guitar legend. Issue I want to mention is the bass player who can not hide his complex towards Ritcjie n also he has more then friendly affection towards Candice , go through videos, it doesnt require to be psych PhD to see clear body language

Very elegant arrangement, but nothing beats Ian Gillan's 'baby cries'. They were used to emphasize the lyrics. A calm, controlled, adult vocal doesn't really do that. 'Child In Time' is a song that needs ot be really load with explosive mood shifts, and the lyrics should almost be screamed and not just sung.

I'm kinda mixed on this ...i Iike the flute from the girl in behind, I liked the sistersof the moon, Ritchie obviously did his thing with ease, I don't mind Candice singing Ian Gillans part, the're all just loveable... but the horrid claxon instrument. I just could not wrap my mind around this one. I just don't get it - after few seconds into the song I start to hate the sound of it from deep inside my head. Can't help it sorry...
