If FFXV taught me something, it's that if side media is needed to fill gaps of information, than the narrative is flawed in it's entirety. @@solracstormhunter3023 In all fairness, when you have a series that's called "Compilation of Final Fantasy VII", and one of the entries is a defunct Japan-exclusive phone game that showcases a lot of the behind-the-scenes lore (fun fact, Rufus Shinra was the co-founder of AVALANCHE, and he funded it so that he could eventually pull the rug out from under them so he could swoop in and reap the benefits, up until he completely lost control once the leader at the time got too powerful and tried to end the world), it stands to reason that they would have eventually made books as well. Of course, I just wound up pirating the book. It was neat.

It's like the difference between Goku using Kaio Ken x4 in early dbz and regular kaoi ken in buu saga (he never did this it's just an example). x4 is stronger but Goku is way stronger in buu saga, so a normal kaoi ken is far stronger than the x4 from before. If you think about it, Clive's mother was probably the most dangerous female character in Final Fantasy. Because of her pure lust for power, she discriminated against her husband and her own children as hostages, and then sold them to an enemy country, and her son became a slave. Although he became prime minister of an enemy country, he had enormous political power but was unable to handle it properly, throwing a relatively healthy country into economic and political chaos. Even though Altema destroyed everything, she still lost her senses and only cared about her own safety, causing the loss of everything she had left. Even her son tried to show her mercy, but ended up taking his own life. She almost looks like a Disney villain, or game of throne characters
