TAC DEMO Super Hornets in action at FLL! They were based here for the Ft. Lauderdale Air Show, which was at the beach. After the initial takeoff and landing, we had planned to leave, but then we heard rumor that both Super Hornets would be leaving later that day. So we waited a few hours... After the airport switched to East Operations we saw signs that they were getting ready to depart.
As the video progresses you can tell how excited everyone was to hear the SOUND OF FREEDOM from close up at FLL! Some other clips are included to show just how loud these fighters are compared to average airline traffic.
On a side note, our microphone wasn't recording during the first taxi shots with both fighters, so some audio of the Super Hornet from earlier is used there. The double takeoff hits a maximum of only 77 out of 100 because the deep bass drowns out some of the jet noise which normally boosts the rating. For comparison, the MD-88 landing hits 82 and the MD-88 takeoff hits 80 (once again because of the bass).
The earlier F/A-18 takeoff clip hits 89 out of 100. The double takeoff was louder than anything we heard that day, including a flyby with afterburner that we totally didn't expect (and didn't film). Instead of trying to restore the audio to reflect the earlier statement, we left it as-is without any modification at all.
