The best thing about Vince isn’t his playing or his voice, it’s his humility. I recall a story about how he still helps out other artists with guitar or vocals, because he remembers a time when he wasn’t being asked. Truly great guy.

You have formal interviews and then you have these conversations that feel like two friends chatting… I don’t think that I have ever seen Vince so relaxed and giggly in an interview. There is a very nice chemistry between the two of you that really has him opening up in a different way than I have seen in other interviews. My sincere compliments Zac, I truly have enjoyed this conversation and if it is up to me you may rank this one in the top three of your best work.

Thank you Truetone Lounge for this long awaited interview. A special thanks to Zac for your encyclopedic knowledge of the artists, the intricacies of the country music industry, and knowing the perfect questions to ask. It's the players who mold the sounds that we all love and Vince Gill has certainly selflessly contributed his share. It is also what has endeared us all to him as a great artist. Thanks Vince for your humble, honest approach to sharing your love of the music and your talent with the world. We sure do love you for it.

Good gracious - Vince Gill is a national treasure. Great interview Zach and a lot of new insights into Vince and his story and process and playing and singing and ... well. I entered the country world back in the day when I was a young punk alternative kid in the mid 80s through Dwight and Steve Earle and even Los Lobos and the Blasters... then Rodney and Roseanne and Lyle Lovett. Vince brought me to traditional country because he had that and he had some rock and some soul etc... When I Called Your Name is just a beautiful introduction into a world that wasn't just alt.country. Love him and I had a ticket to see him here in CLT that got cancelled when Amy had her bike accident. It was just me going because I want to see Vince be Vince. I do hope I have another chance to see him. So influential...

I listened to Vince's music when I was still living behind the Iron Curtain (1970s and 1980s). It was almost impossible to get vinyls or cassette tapes in Poland. Buying any good guitar also.Vince you are a master for me!!!!! Today I live in Scotland, I collect vinyls of country music, blues...... etc. Your vinyls are among the most valuable. I also found space for a telecaster and a few other guitars. In the evenings I sit and relax listening to your guitar riffs and unsuccessfully trying to copy you 🤣 Greetings from an old fun to Vince and Zac (my son's name is Zac)

Loved the part at around the 10 minute mark where Vince talked about his mom not caring if she had a rich kid but she sure wanted a happy kid. It reminded me of a John Lennon quote: “When I was 5 years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down, “happy.” They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.” Another great interview Zac…as usual. Vince comes across as a guy you’d just love to sit down and have coffee with.

After 50+ years on Music Row, I learned more from this Interview than any other in my History. I came to Nashville the first time in August of 1968 working as field service engineer for the 3M MinCom division which made all the tape recorders that of course used mostly 3M tape chose to send me to Nashville because I was the only guitar player in the 3M office in Washington DC that supported the US east of the Mississippi. On that first trip, I ended up in RCA Studio A with Chet Atkins and Jerry Reed and that day I said to myself “so much for living in Virginia, and when I do move to Nashville, I’m gonna leave my guitars at the house”. Vince is one of the reasons I never changed that philosophy and has my greatest respect for his career and his unique family life which belies Nashville tradition for Studio and traveling guitarists.

Finally!!!! Listen I love all these players that are on here from Reggie to Jimmy O & the Don Kelly band members & many others but Vinny is the Pinnacle for myself or the very top of the mountain . When I was a young kid maybe 12 or 13 & just getting into music & starting to pay it was Vince’s sweet tenor voice that always drew my ear in , then as I became a tele player & really started paying attention to players I quickly realized his playing is evenly as excellent as his voice . Then probably 10 years ago when I started trying to write I found his music being a path to follow in writing ( only mine sucks & his doesn’t !) , but the last thing why I’ve always loved him is it seems like he’s the same no matter where he goes , always seems like a nice guy . So anyway I’m stoked to watch this one !! Thanks ZAC & True tone!!
