As a Canadian I fully support Trumps 25% tariff because I believe this will cause Trudeau and his corrupt Liberal government to correct the problems they caused. So, how does that benefit Americans? Raw materials will now need to be shipped further adding to the cost per item, which will add to the overall cost. This has no benefit other than someone feeling good about China bad. The end user (US) is still buying foreign made at the same cost with possibly a longer lead time. I press apparel on a small scale and know there are thousands who do it to supplement their income. It’ll put them out of business. You’ve just said that buyers won’t buy. This is the affect. Ain’t no consumer benefiting from this bs. My wife buys glass frames, name brand ones, that are virtually all made in China. Each frame can be $150-250 or something like that and the overall price can run $6-700 easy. Add another $50 to that price and you might have to think twice about stopping at a Mexican store to pick up the other 25% beans and tortilla.

@@erekalvin Labor costs in other countries may be less than China at this point but virtually all raw materials come from China and they have the full infrastructure already set up with nothing needing to be built. They’d need to build a factory in those other countries and I’m sure it will reflect in the price. But more importantly, there will be absolutely no benefit to Americans. It’s still not made in America. China will still sell its raw materials to those countries, and like this dude up there, he’d just move to…not America.

How are they going to pay? Tariffs are paid by Americans. Most of the oil the US refineries need is from Canada. The shale oil the US extracts is the wrong type of oil. 90% of the potash US farmers need also comes from Canada. That is the funny thing with all of this is Canada is an exporter of natural resources and they can't really be replaced by American sourced and if they are Canada will just find other buyers which would mean there would be a couple decades where the US would have elevated prices. All Trump is doing is risking putting the US into a recession.

Our economies are too intertwined for blank tariffs to work. There are a vast amount of car parts made for automobiles in Canada, tariffs on them puts the price of a car up for EVERYBODY. Most large conglomerates are producing items in both countries, tariffs won't work there either. There are some areas where they can work and they will be promptly matched by Canadian tariffs on USA products in the same sector. I support Trump but fully realize him swinging a big stick is the Art of the Deal- he does have to get the Ottawa moron to take the border seriously and OUR NATO COMMITMENT. That I applaud.

It would cripple the US as well. Most of the refineries in the US need heavy oil. They can only really get that from Canada. 90% of the potash US farmers use also comes from Canada. Trump would just drive up the cost of everything in the US. He is also basically giving Pierre the talking points if he wins next year to build more export pipelines. That would keep prices high for good. Potash would be easy to find other buyers for as well. Russia put export controls on potash after they invaded Ukraine which drove up the cost of food.

Being Canadian I had no idea there was a problem heading south from Canada, many of our problems are from the south heading in here. I do know our fentanyl problem comes from Mexico as well, and we have illegals as well. Our biggest exports to USA is wood, oil, metals and electricity. If tarrifs increase won't it in turn make things more expensive for average Americans? Wood for building houses etc? Anyways I hope it all works out, I myself and many Canadians are happy Trumps in power. Soon Canada will be conservative next election, Trudeau is soon to be out.
@carmine68715 сағат бұрын
Unfortunately because of our idiot leader Justin Trudeau letting everyone into the country there has been a lot of problems with people from other countries coming here and then sneaking past the border. The issue is probably more asylum seekers have come from the United State into Canada but the US doesn't look at it as a net figure. Protecting the border would actually be beneficial for Canada more than it would be for the USA.

90% of US electricity imports come from Canadian hydroelectric facilities. Canada has a lot of fresh water that it supplies the US. The Canadian Yukon is that largest source of heavy rare earth metals on the continent, needed for military tech. These are only a few examples. I’m see a lot of comments here from people who seem to naively think that private companies are going to take losses to advance the interests of American workers. This is entirely contrary to capitalism! lol. And even if all manufacturing was somehow ordered to return to the US for domestic consumption, the increase demand would ultimately trigger widespread stagflation. Please for the sake of future Americans, get off the Trump kool laid. The guy has no clue what he is doing.

Why do Wall Street experts only know about Canada and Mexico importing goods into the U.S.? Why can't Americans eat fruits or use alternative products from over 100 other countries that are not taxed? Why is Wall Street complaining about this? Because they are losing 25% of revenue from products due to corporations, businesses, and billionaires that have invested in and opened production in Mexico with cheap labor, and are importing products back to the U.S. with high profit margins. Other countries are also importing similar products into the U.S. at unchanged prices because they are not subject to tariffs. So how are consumers affected? Only the corporations producing in Mexico and Canada are being taxed by Trump. Therefore, Wall Street is suffering, and of course, they have to spread fear to make Americans oppose Trump. Think about the issue.

We need wood from Canada to build houses, it's the closest and best option for us to purchase it from, and it's one of their largest exports to Americans. Tarrifs on wood is going to hurt average Americans as the price increases will trickle down.

@@RainBitcoins Oil, Fertilizer, specialty metals and the list goes on. Canada's labor is much cheaper and the labor force is almost on par with the Americans, granted Canada has become less productive under Justin Trudeau. Your missing one of the biggest problems with tariffs for current day America, we produce so little and pay so much to workers compared to most countries we import from, if America was a huge manufacturer like during ww2 we would be perfectly fine with tariffs, almost everything Americans consume are imports and is simply going to drive the price up for everything

This is really shows you how little you understand how the trade relationship works. 90% of the potash US farmers use comes from Canada. When Russia invaded Ukraine they ended up putting export controls on potash which drove up food inflation. When Canada started filling the TMX pipeline it caused the storage tanks in Oklahoma to start running low. Thr refineries in the US need heavy oil which the US doesn't really have. Even some of the minerals the US needs for weapons come from Canada and China basically controls the rest of it. 27% of the uranium the US needs for their reactors comes from Canada. Have fun with your inflation as you pay more for everything you need.
