I went to school in the late 60s and 70s. We didn't have black history month then, but I remember learning about Frederick Douglas, Rosa Parks, MLK, and many other famous black people, as well as the founding fathers of this country. Although I'm white, I was taught to respect people of all races, not by my racist parents, but by my church and in school. I taught my children to love all people, not just their own race, and they do. I've watched our country become more and more divided over the last 23 years since 9/11. Racism exists in all races, not only among white people... It is a heart problem, not a political problem. Having grown up in a racist home, I came to understand that apart from Christ, people's hearts often become hardened against one another and those they perceive as different, but the real problem is they hate Jesus.

I am 63 and I remember learning about those ppl in school, too. We learned about Native Americans and a lot about the ppl from around my area. Quannah Parker (Cherokee) and Col. Charles Goodnight and others from the Souix and and others tribes and if course Pocahontas and so forth. I always admired the "Indians" because I was made aware of them through a dance group in a boy scout troop here that my brothers, who were 10 and 13 yrs older than me danced in called the Kwahadi Indian Dancers and they are still in existence today. We went to Colorado and my brothers learned from a chief how to make the hoops for the hoops dance. I played outside with a young boy who was his son. We were both around 5 yrs old and after all these years, I still remember it. I love all ppl. I had 2 nannys that were black when I was little and my mother had to work. I loved them. I don't remember much about the 1st one because I was so young but I remember that she really loved me and cared for me. The 2nd, I remember so well. She was absolutely wonderful and she took such good care of me! I loved her like she was family and I really missed her when my mother started working while I was in school and was home when I got home at 3:30. I was never taught to be racist! My parents were from a very racist generation but they weren't. I am thankful my family has never been that way but I knew plenty of ppl who were. I don't know many, now, who are. I really hope and pray that the loss of dei will cause ppl to look at others in their positions as ppl who really earned it, regardless of color, gender, race, creed, disability or anything else and I really hope that my generation taught the younger generations to not have to be told how to hire ppl for their ability and willingness to work as opposed to being told how to have to do it. Ok, this was long. I left a lot out but you get the picture. 😂

Hi Van, you asked so I'm letting you know. On 'the Benny show" was a man who worked as a tower operator (planes), he told how DEI came in and many,many experienced people were fired. I'm all for black people to have a hand up in any work situation. But its dangerous to require that over qualified and experienced operators. Black history should be integrated into school curriculum. It was NOT included in history in school when I was young (in 70's & 80's). I literally learned nothing about any black history when I was young. I am 52 yrs old now. When President Trump said "what do you want me to do go into the water" regarding the plane crash, he very quickly said "no I'm going to go visit with the family members", I think that was smart & mature. I think the families will appreciate that gesture more truthfully.

Neither party "seem" to care about the elderly, homeless & disabled. Trump imo is going too far re: DEI. Voted for him but was hoping for balance. No extremes on either sides. We are suffering as well & in CA cannot get any temp. assistance even though my husband has had 3 strokes last year alone etc. etc. All social services were going to illegal immigrants & now they are being cut altogether in some instances. Able bodied is different than working our whole lives and no longer able to do so in our late 60's.

I don’t agree with the child support policy only because my ex didn’t completely or always pay child support. He died owing over $85,000.00 in back child support. I raised and paid for all of our children’s needs. This happens more than many people think. So why should a man who isn’t paying all of the child support get to claim the child during tax season?🤷‍♀️🤔 That is one policy I absolutely disagree with.

I, too, believe how important it is to have both mother and father because I never had a father. My dad passed when I was a baby; I don’t remember him. My mother raised 3 of us alone in the 50s. I always felt less-than everyone else.
