A U.S. Air Force plane set to repatriate 80 Guatemalan nationals departed from the military base of Fort Bliss in El Paso in the United States on Thursday (January 30).
The migrants were deported under Title 8, a law that allows for immediate deportation after crossing into the U.S. without authorization.
“We can have you back in your home country in 7 hours on a flight like this," said Border Patrol special operation supervisor Hamid Nikseresht as he discouraged migrant from illegally entering the United States.
The flight is expected to land in Guatemala City's La Aurora airport later on Thursday.
President Donald Trump, on his first day in office, declared undocumented immigration a national emergency, tasking the U.S. military with aiding border security, issuing a broad ban on asylum, and taking steps to restrict citizenship for children born on American soil.
