If Trump can't get more of Panama's rains to come back - the USA might be needed to pay to redesign and rebuild the canal, which is having to limit traffic thought it more and more because of less and less fresh water to fill the locks.

The canal is in Panamanian territory. They can close the canal to shipping if they want. The US offered to pay for it back then, to benefit the USA, and as a service to benefit the world, the canal has paid for itself over, and over, and saved the USA trillions of dollars in shipping costs , by not having to sail around the tip of South America. Panama needs the income for maintaining it, and running it 24/7 which they have done for decades. Keeping up the maintenance on the locks, and all that goes with keeping shipping running smoothly must cost a fortune. Trump is a very petty man and an absolute moronic cheapskate. Panama doesn't owe us anything..

Recently, the lake they they use to make the canal functioning is drying thanks to climate change. The water level drops to dangerous level. If the water is getting scarce and number of ships are getting bigger then it make sense for canal operators to raise their fees. They need the money to divert water from other rivers to the canal. This is what Trump cannot understand. He thinks that Panama just being a d*ck and raising fees for no reason.
