Even though I'm not American, I can say I am not a fan of Daylight Saving. Most of Australia's states do Daylight Saving but my state is one that does not and boy am I grateful for that. Three times in my life though, my state government forced us onto a 'Trial' for Daylight Saving, two of the years the trial lasted just the one summer and one of the times, It lasted for 3 years as the then govt thought, maybe we would like it if we gave it a 'proper go'. It was like the worst case of jet lag that just wouldn't go away and I'm a night owl on top of that. I come alive and awake at night so having to get up for work/school an hour earlier each day killed me because I just could not sleep earlier. Well, at the end of each trial, the question went to referendum and each time, we proudly told the state govt where they could stick their Daylight Saving as we didn't want it. And just for context, the state I live in covers a third of Australia's land mass. (though since the state is so big, I do believe there are 2 different time zones within my state with a small area near the eastern border on a slightly different time for understandable reasons.)

The advantage of choosing to have or not have daylight saving time is about unifying a collective. Americans can't believe in the unity of a commonwealth. Consider how ridiculous it is in the US with the school system. No school system at any level recognizes when the school year ends and begins. If you have several children at different school levels, it becomes impossible to plan a family holiday - one child's school semester ends just before Christmas, and another ends weeks before. If another one of your children is in high school, their semester starts and ends at different times. Not great for organizing family activities. Check out Europe. All their school semesters, regardless of their children's school level, start and end simultaneously. Is unity ever possible in the US?

I’m guessing you live at a much lower latitude. Because in northern latitudes the sun doesn’t set until 10pm at night in the summer or later. But if we were to stay on standard time instead of having a 5 AM sunrise, we would have a 4 AM sunrise. In the winter on standard time the sunrise is just before 8am, but sun set is 4pm.

I know people get into fatal car accidents when the day gets one hr shorter. I know my body is not working as it should the days following the resetting of the clock. It could be some scientists see major long term health effects due to this.

Yes. It’s the changing of the clocks, particularly the spring time change where we lose an hour that has the most harm. It’s not daylight saving time that’s the harm. It’s the changing clocks and the loss of an hour. There is tons of data demonstrating that changing the clocks is harmful to our health. We need to stop switching every six months and just stick with one .

DayLight Savings IS OUR REGULAR TIME ! We're on it by far most of the year which by DEFAULT makes it our regular time. Daylight Savings does just what it says IT SAVES DAYLIGHT FOR WHEN MOST EVERYONE IS AWAKE ! Because of Standard time the sun now starts going down at 4:00 in the afternoon. By 5:00 pm its literally pitch dark. Which means everyone is now up for 5-6 hours in absolute darkness. If we stayed on Standard time all year it would start getting light at 3:00 am in the morning in the summer. By 4:00 am it would be absolute daylight outside and to make it worse we'd lose our later summer glowing evenings. Which is ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY CRAZY !! Finally, the nonsensical excuses of children waiting for a bus in the dark is moronic. If we stayed on Daylight Savings it would be getting light by 7:00 am. and every second that went by it would be getting lighter not darker. If it was really a problem and its not, just start school 1/2 hour later. To make EVERYONE live this Standard Time all year is NONSENSE and quite Stupid too.... A child is only a child for a few years. To make that person live their next 65+years because it was a little dark in the morning for a couple months way back when, is RIDICULOUS !!!

Well, to be fair in your argument, it’s not just one cohort of students - it’s generations of students. I personally don’t care what we pick as long as it stays the same.

@Coloradocorean CORRECT !! That's the point. (It would be everybody.) The way we are living now (Standard Time), would be permanent. Kids can't hardly do anything outside after school because it's now so dark so early. EVERYONE I know hates driving home everyday after work in darkness as well. This is CRAZY !! ...and obviously not good for anyone's Day/Night rhythms.

I hope somebody figures this out because it’s an unnecessary stress on us all.

I have a novel idea. Instead of fighting over whether to change the clocks or not how about we destroy the idea that we are chained to the same schedules all year round? Why are we all still stuck on this industrial era idea that we have to have a rigid schedule just so the factory owners who aren't tied to a rigid schedule like the lowly peons that work for them can maximize profits?

The time changes screw up the dog’s feeding schedule. With every time change they expect to eat dinner earlier and earlier.😂

I support keeping Standard time and I will give Trump as much credit for doing it as America gave Biden for fixing their economy.
