So, do you think all the forcings are known and understood? All the evidence with CO2 and climate change says CO2 follows temperature. Models are not evidence. There is literally no EVIDENCE that atmospheric CO2 concentration causes the global temperature to rise....but yes it may be true. The question of climate change is about choice. If we carry on in the same direction, we'll end up where we're heading. We're not the first species to radically change the climate, neither is radical climate change unknown. It often drives evolution. We're also doing what nature does, use all the resources it can find to grow. The big difference is we have awareness to see ahead & we have choices about if we run things into a crash or take preemptive action. The latter seems the most sensible course of action, but Trump isn't sensible or looking beyond the end of his nose. It seems a lot of US voters decided based on a belief petrol & eggs are over priced...

They can't escape economics Every year fossil gets more expensive as it's subject to higher and higher extraction costs, processing costs and transportation costs The capital cost of renewables is still falling in real terms and the input energy as in wind and the sun are free and not subject to inflation Just had a solar and battery system installed it will pay back capital costs in 6 years, reason the battery and it's cost has plummeted in the last few years

By the way, climate change is not another definition of disaster just because "the UN" decides that it is. Be careful in defining your terms when accusing people of being deniers. Co2 has effect on temperature, but I see it as minimal and generally beneficial. When I see epistemological evidence to the contrary, having weighed up costs & benefits, then I might change my mind. @@weswheel4834 No. it’s because most of the ‘climate’ tragedies that have occurred so far are actually not out of the ordinary. For example, massive wildfires in Tenerife last summer were billed as climate. However, I was there at the time, and the local tv was stating police said it was arson that started it. Also spoke to a taxi driver, and he said it happens every few years. So not climate. Look at Valencia recently. Also not climate, as the media would have people believe. Real cause was lack of flood guarding, as part of an eco project to widen rivers. Climate change is obviously a thing. But I’m afraid that has been a thing for billions of years. And anywhere that is truly having major issues, needs local fixes. Fracking in America will not impact flooding in Bangladesh.

What will be the total cost of achieving net zero in the uk? Also how and by whom will this cost be paid? As far as I’m aware no one from our government has ever published this with supporting calculations.

Compared to not doing anything about it? In fact, so far for me it's been a net benefit. Buying an EV when my old car had to be scrapped, had saved me a load of money. After the roughly nine year payback from the cost of installing solar panels and a battery from my pension payout, I'll be quids in. A 12% return on investment, tax free.🙂

What’s the cost of doing nothing? Why wouldn’t you want to be energy independent? Right now the cost of offshore wind is significantly cheaper than all other forms of energy (yah yah what about when it doesn’t blow, snore). Once our ecosystem breaks you can’t put it back together again, once insects populations collapse (happening now) our current way of life is gone, forever. Personally don’t see why you wouldn’t support cheaper energy (off shore wind) backed by a base load in the form of nuclear/hydrogen/batteries. We just endured a cost of living crisis precisely because we aren’t energy independent.

Why is the uk obsessed with what Americans are doing. Shouldn't we be obsessed with the road ahead of us and things the uk is able to achieve ... Why is the UK interested in what our largest and most important ally is doing? Why is the UK interested in what the largest world economy, and the UK's single largest trading partner is doing? Hmm I wonder why... 😂 Come on mate, it's not that difficult... no country exists in a vacuum and if we are to look at "the road ahead" then we naturally need to consider what is going on globally too... whether we like it or not, events in the USA will affect us and the rest of the world.
@nickj32876 сағат бұрын
@mandolinmandolin look around the world, in 30 years many countries are passing the uk in productivity and development... The reason why America is our biggest trading partner is because we put all our eggs in there basket.. No wonder our greatest minds are leaving the uk... Events in usa affect the rest of the words because they are the reserve currency, And they are the biggest consumers, which affects trade everywhere, Its actually a lot more complicated than that as they have some the biggest outward investments everywhere... But that doesn't mean we dont know how to pull our own socks up....

@nickj3287 I agree, and I don't like it either. But that's unfortunately the reality - you asked why we are so interested in what happens in the USA, and sadly this is the truth.

Net zero 💩
@garymellor51005 сағат бұрын
Please stop saying "climate change deniers". No one denies the climate changes. Its "man made climate change denier"that is the correct terminology. Its perfectly correct to debate the effect man has on climate change, the science isnt settled despite the consensus peoole cling on to. Milliband has just put out a prediction that peoples energy bills could reduce by 300 pounds by 2030. He used a model for his prediction that didnt estimate how much bills will increse by 2030 before the possible reduction he claims may happen. I would rather listen to scientists and economists with opposing views on man made climate change have a debate rather than listen to two people pontificate about a subject they believe is settled. Its perfectly acceptable to ask why we are putting all our eggs into the net zero basket without being labelled as some sort of danger to the planet. There is other options than taking this over zealous approach to net zero.
@SlowhandGreg5 сағат бұрын
Your energy bills will reduce in real terms the more renewables we have on the grid simply because wind and the sun aren't affected by inflation, extraction processing and transport costs + The cost of the infrastructure is still falling in real terms + Energy providers are embracing new tech to enable consumers to time shift demand onto cheaper off peak tariffs
@youngsalmon51885 сағат бұрын
For a start you should be listening to climatologists, many scientists are not qualified in the field. And amongst climatologists it is settled, there will always be a minority who disagree with any theory however that is how science works. Only the ignorant or selfish would still deny man made climate change just like the fools that said the hole in the ozone wasn’t man made😢
