This is one of the best interviews I have listened too in quite some time. Facts and truth being spoken in a manner of dignity and respect and yet the meanings clear. This was the type of politics I grew up in. I am a Democrat therefore most of my policy beliefs are different from Senator Corker’s. What is the same is our love of Country and the belief that you are to be in service of the Country, Constitution and constituencies not power for powers sake. This is a human that I can respect. Thank you for your service Senator Corker.

@@davidethompson1271 I agree that one can include Gingrich into the chain of events. I disagree that there is some vast right wing conspiracy. I rather view the dynamics as a result of Dems abandoning the economically lower 30-40 % of the nation, unless they were/are of color (in which case Dems somehow demagogically relate nearly every problem to racism). Needless to say establishment GOP was not the spokesman of the "average American" anyway. The Tea Party and now Trump is not cause, but effect of the delegitimization of the interests of the white lower / lower-medium income classes. Now a vast part of this population has lost the faith in the system as such. The USA is facing a rebellion against the establishment, this time from the cultural Right, unlike the 1960s when it came from the Left.

I am proud of people like Bob Corker, Liz Cheney, and Adam Kinzinger. They all gave up or are giving up their seat in favor of integrity, or right vs wrong. Many fellow Republicans have demonstrated no spine, however, there are many of us who care more about America than political ideology or holding a seat of power. Great series Frontline.

Corker speaks as if the trauma is over: His former senate colleagues are STILL perpetuating the big lie. Corker keeps choking at the point of accepting and pointing out accountability. You can't speak truth to power while shielding yourself and your friends from culpability. I actually feel less respect for Corker after watching this.

I came away from this interview with true respect for the man. I had a generally favorable impression of Senator Bob Corker, still do. I truly believe we have plenty of politicians and very few leaders, and the man Bob Corker would be a leader. But I’ll rewatch the interview just in case I missed the tone of what he said, just in case. I was so impressed I hope you’ll rewatch too, maybe you’ll hear something different that will temper your feelings a little.

Term limits come into play when one tells oneself: It's not *my* senator or it's not *my* congressional rep on down to state, city/town, district attorney's and point to others. Most people have access and don't use it to see how their reps voted *before* voting for them again and again and politicians understand this. People also only listen for snippets they want to hear and tune out the rest and politicians understand that also. Susan Collins is the perfect example here. In the mid 90's during her 1st campaign, she said that 1 term would be enough--how many terms now? She royally pissed off her home state in 2019 and 2020 and they found someone to campaign against her then what happened last November? We have the oldest Congress in the history of the country some of whom are medicated or should be, Senators Feinstein and Grassley are prime examples of candidates of being past due for retirement.

I spoke to him in person around New Year’s. I think it was the 30th. I ran into him downtown. Anyway, I tried to congratulate him on standing up to Trump, and he actually seemed to be embarrassed by it, like maybe he didn’t want anyone to know. I think he’s afraid of Trump’s fans. Right, and stunningly pathological liars who got on TV every night for 3 years telling us that Trump colluded with "Russia" (it was always vague --- "Russia". Big place, that Russia --- WHO in Russia did he collude with?), and that they had definitive evidence that would put the entire Trump family in jail. But somehow --- SOMEHOW --- they forgot to share that evidence with Bob Mueller, and strangely, at the same time, his team never heard about these nightly claims of irrefutable evidence, so they didn't try to get the evidence from them. THOSE people (I use the word "people" loosely) are the mature ones, right?

That’s where I think the left needs to look in the mirror and ask ourselves where we are losing by opportunities to communicate our perspective. I could be wrong but I think the left has a blind spot to the ways it has alienated rural whites, while the right has hit on this blindspot of elitism and arrogance that is more or less endemic to highly productive urban areas, where people are in fierce social competition, have money, call poor whites dumb and irredeemable - almost talk of them like a different species without hope. Subhuman. The right is capitalizing on our urban blind spot, and basic lack of regard - worse than that: active hatred - of rural whites, who are often super racist and don’t even know it. The Left capitalized on the racism, misogyny, and basic lack of awareness of/ regard for the systemic oppression they are party to. We hate each-other when we could help and listen to each-other - EVEN RACISTS - to perhaps have better opportunities to be effective.

@Joel Maners I’m from California and I have adult kids who live in Tennessee. They had to start wearing ‘maga’ masks so they and my grands could go to the gro store without being harassed. They live 30 mins. outside of Nashville which is predominately blue yet they voted in Marsha Blackburn. It’s a sad state of affairs we’re in.

The problem is all the fanatics who are threatening people's lives over any anti-Trump stance. That is the real "deep state" - and it's at the grass-roots level, not in Washington, DC. I certainly don't agree with everything that goes on in Washington but I think the elections (as they had to be held during this pandemic) were shown to be fair and we have to let our elected people do the leading.

And do you know that the FBI arrested John Sullivan, whose own brother turned him in, for organizing 266 Antifa people to go to the Capitol to incite the riot? Do you realize that BLM and Antifa rioted all summer and into the fall, and some rioting is still going on, and this resulted in 30 people being MURDERED, and the insurance industry has said that they have $2 billion in property damage claims from such rioting? I mean, do you have any PERSPECTIVE at all on this? The liberal --- quote, media, unquote --- glorified this violence, and did not mourn any of the 30 people who were murdered. The people who died at that rally in DC were all Trump supporters.

Her journalism or interviewing style is on point and skilled at getting her interviewee right where she needs and wants them. As hard as they tried in the beginning to not show their personal feelings, frustrations and responding oh so carefully, she was able to slowly turn and pull and churn the conversation with such grace they didn't know what happened.

He was truly genuine and I can always hear a person who experienced NA when their communicating and they have no idea what they ACTUALLY dealt with and you can hear them trying to explain but they can’t quite rap their minds around it. What’s happened to our party started about ten years ago; many of these new members voiced such outrages ideals that seemed headed for civil unrest in our country! Many of us pray for the return of these faith based voices concerned for the country; instead of those voices speaking out only for themselves and their popularity. Every single person, not just American but person on the planet should acknowledge and accept that PBS Frontline is what news truly looks like without money changing the narrative or deciding the perspective. Dollar signs, zeros on contracts, and handshakes aren't telling me what to believe anymore. I'm embarrassed to say I only discovered Frontline a few days ago, but proud to say I don't have to turn to major news outlets to watch 3 or 4 different narratives of the same set of facts to try and figure out what really happened anymore.
