I just watched 3 videos regarding the same topic, 2 from CSBC, and one from here. This gentlemen has the absolute best take, in particular -- The problem that exists is with DJT, not with the US or relations with the US. The problem within Canadian's goods at home, especially in Canada, is the insane costs of goods primarily due to many going to the States to purchase goods to resell back to the Canadian citizens at a greater mark up. A solution to this is incredibly simple: 1) Do this trade war. Allow it to occur, US & Canadian citizens will be fine. The concern relies within energy on the east coast, thus start formulating plans to obtain public utilities once more. Build what was provided to you from the US, which will increase the Canadian market already. 2) Stop selling Oil to the US. I live in the US, my gasoline, at 93 octane, will sky rocket. I don't care. It's the statement that the US shouldn't be bullying other countries economically when it put itself in these situations due to neoliberalism that the conservative republican party legitimately put into place, some of which even underneath DJT's first term. 3) Put 100% tariff's on the tech companies of the US. Will it suck not having the newest RTX Graphics cards from nVidia, or an Xbox Console, or an AMD CPU? Sure, but people will make due with what they have and work with the current supplies. 4) Make a bold statement to the world. Ban/block X nation wide. And block the sales of GM, Ford, and especially Tesla, and start making trade agreements with China for EV's intentionally to get under the skin of DJT. 5) During negotiations, plea a better negotiation for Canada. The US needs Canada more than Canada needs the US. The only reason our gas prices are so inexpensive is because we take crude oil from Canada. The only reason our goods and services can be so inexpensive is because we obtain various materials from Canada.

The US "protects" Canada because they do not want Canada to have any sort of defence agreements with China or Russia or any other countries which may get a foothold on their "door step". Look at what happened in October 1962 when Russia wanted to put missiles in Cuba, it nearly resulted in WW3, that is how "protective" the USA must be towards Canada. Canadians just spent 34 Billion dollars to complete a pipeline to the West Coast, 'The Trans Mountain Pipeline'. An Energy East Pipeline would cost about 80 Billion dollars to complete. And Oil profits don't justify building it. That is why no one in the private sector want anything to do with it. So stop the discount on oil to the Americans, and maximize the Trans Mountain Pipeline shipments Asia. Or continue discounting oil to Americans and stop whining about it. Or turn off the tap.

An average Canadian after compulsory deductions and rent ends up with only 10% as disposable income. In the great capitalist nation of USA after compulsory deductions and rent an average American has 30-40 % income. In addition due to the socialism our per capita income is only 72% of the great capitalist nation of USA. This implies that for every disposable dollar an American has we have only 25 cent. How can such one sided unequal deals work? It is obvious one party is looting its own citizens and that is not enuff so it has to loot the American consumer with higher disposable income and also students/immigrants from grower saver, efficient and productive economies. And obviously that party was elected by 2 cities and China. And obviously how long will agenda of loot work specially when 100% of looters suffer TDS

The companies that are drilling and fracking in the US are salivating for Canada not to discount oil to the US because then they can open up more wells in the US especially in North Dakota and surrounding area. I know several workers in that area that are only working part time due to new rigs are not going up but once oil price increase the drive to drill baby drill encouraged by Trump administration would only take months and not years. Also once oil prices come down to the ideal range Trump will prevent prices in the US market to go down too much by imposing higher tariffs. The country that is using the high volume of any product whether it is oil, cars, etc can manipulate the price of these products by imposing tariffs and giving tax write offs to manufacturers willing to make or in this case drill more oil in their own country. The US consumes overwhelming many more products including oil per person than any other nation in the World.

The USA has 360,000,000 consumers. Good luck with that not causing a depression in Canada with the loss of jobs when the largest market does not buy your products. I shudder to think this is how we will meet our NATO commitment. Canada does need to invest more in our national defence. Against Russia and by proxy China in the North. Unfortunately now it seems we need to also defend our southern border against more economic invasions from the US. is it time we start rethinking our nuclear capabilities just so we can get a seat at the table? Maybe the only way to balance the power between Russia and the US is to give control of both their nuclear weapons to Canada. We are literally and physically in the middle of all this. I see Trumps words and actions as a power grab on the world’s stage. I don’t believe any other country in the world see this as a good thing. Both the US and Russia, along with a few other countries, like being thought of as a world superpower. Maybe it’s time turn the scale upside down.

Canada shouldn't we be focused on retaliatory tariffs - rather add on export taxes for sectors where the US is our primary customer such as energy (hyrdoelectricity, oil, gas).

Can't. Canada is at the point we need yo take on debt and put in more taxes. We ant afford what we're doing now. We eithe rclose the border for a decade or we keep spending u til we go bankrupt. We can't even afford our health care. We're going in debt for that.

So looks like Justin Trudeau will return again in a couple of years. PS I haven't voted in over 20 yrs. They are all put in. If there is a daddy pres and then son that's your first clue. Whether in Canada or USA. Castro son, Trudeau... hmmm. And Gregg Braden 2030 transhuman youtube is a eye opening one. Think of Elon Muskrat and his brain chip ideas etc. It doesn't get better ...

Canada has been too busy being "green" to take their NATO obligations seriously. I have actually heard a Canadian say recently how the US would protect Canada whether Canada met it's NATO obligations or not. Most of the NATO countries have been taking advantage of the US for a long time. Finally we have a president who does something about it.

We need to divest / diversify from the U.S. and build more pipelines to the west and to the east and LNG plants and export to Asia and Europe. I'm sick and tired of the United States pushing us around, hopefully this tariff war is a wake up call to all of Canada. We have $33 trillion in natural resources, we should be in the top spot in the world.
