"Under threats from President Trump that included steep tariffs, President Gustavo Petro of Colombia has relented and will allow U.S. military planes to fly deportees into the country, after turning two transports back in response to what he called inhumane treatment.
The two leaders had engaged in a war of words on Sunday after Colombia’s move to block Mr. Trump’s use of military aircraft in deporting thousands of unauthorized immigrants.
But on Sunday night, the White House released a statement in which it said that because Mr. Petro had agreed to all of its terms, the tariffs and sanctions Mr. Trump had threatened would be “held in reserve.” Other penalties, such as visa sanctions, will remain in effect until the first planeload of deportees has arrived in Colombia, the statement said.
“Today’s events make clear to the world that America is respected again,” it added."

What do you get for that. A large coffee [nearly a pint in volume] from the corner shop to me is just under Euro4 which is about $4.10 USD and that is Colombian coffee. I cheat and buy myself instant freeze dried [easy to make with a thermos flask] and I pay around USD5 for a jar that lasts me 2 weeks, again Colombian as I like that particular brand/strength of coffee. I'm in Ireland.

Toronto Dominion Bank economists examined the purported deficit numbers between Canada and the USA. They discovered, that yes, indeed, there is a $45 billion USD trade deficit. America buys 90 billion dollars of Canadian oil/year (at a 20% discount.) IF however, that oil was removed from the equation, Canadians would be buying 45 billion more in US products than the US buys from Canada, ergo they would have a trade surplus and Canada would have a deficit. Now if that oil was removed, the US economy would quickly collapse as oil cannot be easily replaced with the refining capacity the US currently has. Trump is such a knob.

About 25% of US coffee comes from Colombia, 2nd only after Brazil. A 25% reduction of the coffee supply would have a huge impact on US companies and coffee shops. Fortunately, Trump gave in to Colombia and the coffee will keep coming, though he could slap higher tariffs on it depending on his mood.

When I was roasting coffee commercially, by the time all was said and done, I would sell my single origin Colombia for about $17.50/lb. Add 50% on top of that. As a consumer, you are looking at $27.00/lb. For all WWII, Korea, Vietnam vets, I know what kind of coffee you drink. What is the cost of the red or blue can of coffee? Well, nearly double it. That is what you will pay.

25% on Colombian products will not effect Columbia at all. The only effect will be on the Americans purchasing Colombian products. The only time tariffs affect the country supplying the product is if the consumer stops buying it. If your coffee goes from $4 to $4.10, will you drink less? I know I won’t
