Can you sue a legislator for failing to bring a bill up for a vote? I would love to see someone (especially a Kentucky resident) file a lawsuit, alleging that Moscow Mitch reluctance to bring up Bill #___ (pick any bill) resulted in harm to the person or persons. ie. failing to pass a law to strengthen background checks and allow ATF and the FBI to complete checks on time leads to someone able to obtain a gun legally that never would've otherwise. That gun buyer uses the gun and shoots and kills someone, leaving a family without a breadwinner. The remaining family members then file a lawsuit against Sen McConnell, after learning the shooter shouldn't have had the gun and that the languishing bill would have prevented the purchase. I am curious if that could happen.

But for the life of me I do not get the logic for owning one outside a gun club. I understand and accept that with your gun laws it is prudent to have a gun in the house for self defence. I do have to question how effective a rifle or hand gun locked in a cupboard in the downstairs lounge is against an armed burglar at the top of your stairs but that's an arguement for another day. It is all about reducing risk. An assault weapon is so easy to use. So easy to wipe out dozens. It can be taken into a club, bar, cinema, school, shopping mall, airport. There is no warning, no way out. Within seconds dozens can be mown down . A shooter just has to stand there and fire. There's no getting away from it in an open area. You just have to hope there is another person in between you and the shooter. Not nice to say but a reality. It's too damned easy. And all with an item that is in essence just a toy. It is an item for entertainment . It has no real purpose in the hands of the general public. Again yes, Cars are a risk in the wrong hands. Once again. You cannot ban cars and whatever you may say, they are not a versatile weapon. Banning cars would bring life to a halt. What would banning assault weapons do to the American publics way of life apart from put a few noses out of joint and hurt a few egos? Nothing! As for being naive, I am trained in aviation safety and security so understand plenty. Probably a lot more than you. Safety is all about risk prevention and risk reduction. You can't stop madmen and supremacists (same thing in some cases I suppose) from shooting people but you can reduce their gun capabilities.Again, it's called risk reduction. The 2nd amendment was written a long while ago when things were very different in America. The Bible and the Koran were written a long while ago and people tend to interpret them as they feel benefits them, just like many do with the 2nd amendment.
