I've loved spell hunter for as long as I can remember. Even before the days of Barnes/Yogg hunter, I'd try to make a hunter deck with no minions. When I read Zul'jin, my jaw dropped. I instantly crafted it, and I regret absolutely nothing.

Dear Trump I am running a secret hunter deck quite similar to the one you was running with dire mole, secret keeper and houndmaster. i realized that my chance of winning the match increases when subject 9 is played. Considering this data, i realized that if their was a way to always get subject 9, the winrate of the deck would substantuly increase. I replaced secret keepers' with headhunters hatchet and one of the less played secret with one copy of masters call. By doing this the only non beast out of 4 minions within the deck is houndmaster. The only way that subject isnt pulled is when you get houndmaster, crackling razormaw, and dire mole in the discover pool in which i consider it to be unlucky if that occurs. I have also taken into account that there is 2 of every minion except subject 9. On the other end of the spectrum, if you get subject 9 instead of houndmaster, you would essentialy be drawing 8 cards once subject 9 is played. I would like to know if the change improves the deck, or decreases it success by removing secret keeper and one venomstrike trap. I took into account that playing headhunters hatchet on 2 means you are unable to play a secret on 2 but is that enough to disapprove of this theory. Playing Secret keeper and do to the fact that their is abundance of secrets in the deck, she is more times than not likely to be a 2/3. I also noticed that secret keeper is rarely able to become 3/4 or 3/3 due to fact of no secret follow up on or turn 3 or thw opponent has killed her or damaged her. Thus i was thinking that more times than not secret keeper is just a 2/3, then why not run a 2/2 potentialy 2/3 weapon. If secret keeper (you probably wont even play her without the guaranteed follow up in hand, but you would still play the 2/2 weapon) is played with no secret follow up, she is thus weaker than the weapon. Also the weapon has initiative which make both cards able to attack on turn 2. As i see it, its (1/2 into 2/3 or just stay 1/2) vs (2/2 or potential 2/3).I believe that the risk of not playing a dire mole on 1 is a less significant risk than not having a follow up secret on 2. I understand that secret keeper has a greater possibility of early game value, but i come to the conclusion that that early game value doesnt compare to the mid to late game value you get from having an increased chance to get subject 9. If i make this change, i think i would lose a little to gain a lot more in return. I am aware that you can play a secret on 3 and 4 or just two secrets on 4 but that leaves secret keeper as a 1/2 for another turn in which she will probably die. Please give me feedback and if you need the deck recipe i will link it to you and thank you for your time. P.S. i don't have professor putricide or rexar in deck but i do have zuljin. I am planning on putting professor putricide in the deck. p.s.s I did note that you can play 2 1 drops on 2 but only 1 weapon. Sincerely, ThePhotonKnight

CalubCrew Try opening 101 packs and only getting 5 legendaries, which includes the free one which was Gonk. Only 2 of those 5 I actually wanted. Really hate rng right now. Since they give you a free legend in your first 10 packs, that means I only got 3 legendaries in 91 packs.

Spirit of the frog is good for tutoring for spells. I use it in my Eureka OTK shaman with Beakered Lighning, Hex, and Volcano.

Tutors for kingsbane are important (and kingsbane decks often run a bunch of pirates too). Necrium blade is also an important combo enabler sort of thing that tutoring could be very useful for. Weapons in warriors are just beatsticks/value generators, not linchpins for your entire strategy.

Jan'alai is nutty. Made an odd mage deck with this, fire eaters, and pyromaniac. Went from 8- almost 4 in 2 hours.

Jan'alai really should've been on this list. It obviously felt like a strong card before the expansion was released, and looking at the current data it's the best card in odd mage. Highest winrate for the deck if it's in your starting hand, you draw it, or you play it. Odd mage is looking to have a 54% winrate currently, and Jan'alai is a major driving force behind that. I get that hindsight is 20/20, but most people would have put Jan'alai somewhere in the top ten.

I think Likkim will see MUCH less play than people are giving it credit for. In the early game, the amount of decks who are willing to overload and what cards they are willing to overload for is not a long list. It's a 1/3 weapon for 2. For it to be a 3/3 (for 2 of the turns) weapon you're paying 4-6 mana. That's very high cost, and only a few very specific overload cards will be worth it in the early-midgame. And even then, it's not nearly OP at that cost. So Likkim is really for decks that are fine with having a super bad early game and compensating for it by a few swings of Likkim to convert it into just a bad early game.

I completely agree that Zul'Jin is the best card of the set but it makes me wonder....isn't the card giving Spell Hunter a level of insanity a la Taunt Druid? The fact that you are able to clear every single thing from your Spell Hunter opponent is quite tough many times, and after that they just play Zul'Jin and fill the board with minions, get 5 secrets which are all great and potentially destroy many or all of your minions. I'm not feeling too comfortable with the power level of the card tbh

Zul'Jin hype is interesting largely because it assumes Hunter is a class that plays to turn 10 and beyond which historically has NEVER been the case. Yes, games can go that long...but this is a class that has never made control hunter work and where stalling has always been a losing battle. Zul'Jin is without a doubt an absurdly pushed card....the question is whether or not there's a place for it in hunter class at all.

I'm pretty new to the game and hunter is my least favorite class because I'm just not good enough to know when to make what choices yet but I opened a Zul'jin as one of my only playable legendaries and since I don't have Baku yet, it pretty much boils down to "do you want to get one card or an entire deck?" So, I guess I have to learn what the hell I'm doing and start playing Hunter.

@@stvehernandez700, sorry about the ambiguity. Baku seems to be in all the decks that I'm excited about seeing other people play (Paladin, dragon warrior, odd mage, etc). I realize that odd hunter wouldn't work. As for hunter being easy for new players, I just seem to always make the wrong choice between kill spell, creature, or secret for later. I also am not great at figuring out when to switch from control to face either by going too early and losing once a big taunt guy shows up or wasting trades that are nominally value but result in running out of resources. If you've got a suggestion on what to watch to learn to suck less at this, I'd certainly appreciate it.

i love it in my Rush/Dragon/Mech wild warrior i've called "Rasta'Curator". Has dragons that you copy with War Master to get value, the rush cards which have immunity because of rhino spirit and some mecha because Dr.Boom. It's disgusting and feels amazing to drop rhino spirit, oondasta, into akali and then draw my 9/9 darius, or 8/7 Zilliax, who will also be immune. It's so grosss

sooo... Zul'jin is actually... HORRIBLE in spell hunter... because the spells he casts are cast in the exact same order as you originally played them, down to the last spell, which means you, more often than not, are gonna wind up flanking shot your tokens to hell than actually hit the opponent with them, not to mention you will never that the trio of animal companions onto the board because you will have 3/3 wolves all over it already. The main issue however, is that he's too expensive for spell hunter, most spell hunter games simply doesn't last long enough for Zul'jin to matter, either you are behind and are so low on life your liable to be dead before you even get to 10 mana to play Zul'jin, or you are winning on board with your tokens, in which case playing Zul'jin is will do greater harm to your own board than actually do anything dangerous to the opponent, if he was 9 or maybe even 8 mana, I could see Zul'jin bein Okish for spell hunter, but as is, he's just a dead draw 90% of the time,, and that is my thought of it after spending 8 hours trying to make Zul'jin work in spell hunter yesterday, Deathstalker just does everything better than Zul'jin does at much less mana to boot. To make matters even worse for Zul'jin is that revenge of the wild will resurrect Zombeasts exactly as they were while on the board and not as the main component, which makes his zombeasts even more silly strong than he already was and even further just beats Zul'jin into the dirt.

Rag's power came from the fact he could be - and was - run in every single deck because there was no reason to *not* run him. Same with Sylvanas. The existence of odd decks actually would give you a reason to not run him nowadays. Lich King similarly comes to mind with how I just described them. Theyre good cards, but they were Hall of Fame'd because they were nuetral classic set cards. Limiting it to just ONE class for this expansion and attaching it to a condition and really only pushing for it in one deck type at the moment isnt quite the same.

The two main reasons they are hating him for this are valid reasons 1 - He's pushing spirit of the frog too much. I don't deny it could be good, but it seems too coincidental that he's giving it so much credit when it's also his card that he revealed. And 2 - He's rating cards before the expansion comes out so everything he's saying is purely based on guesses
