You should go to Isle of Arran and play shiskine the 12 hole course it’s a must for every golfer. Google it, it’s in the top 100 to play in Britain. You won’t be disappointed plus there’s 7 courses or more on the course

Are handicaps different there? Or is there only one universal way to get your handicap?

By ‘there’ do you mean the UK? If so then handicaps are based on a CONGU system. You play in Qualifying club competitions. A scratch score is determined from the course scratch score and competition results. Your handicap adjusts based on your score relative to the Competition Standard Scratch (CSS). At my club CSS is often three under Par so you have to shoot 4 shots under your handicap for it to go down. How is adjusts is a little complicated as the are different categories, buffer zones, different playing formats etc. But the club can also adjust your handicap based on general ability. Don’t play an amazing shot in front of the wrong person!
