This is why traditionally deep red Alabama just experienced a huge flip of state seat in a special election 62.4% Dem vs 37.6% GOP. When Dem Marilyn Lands ran for this seat in 2022, she lost by 7 points. This time, she won by a whopping 25 points! That was most definitely a voter statement about what Alabamans, and especially Women, think about the Republicans’ anti-IVF and anti-abortion legislation. Hopefully this is a taste of what Republicans can look forward to in November.

I lost my 33 year old son less than 3 years ago, also inherited his sweet doggie. She has kept me going and is a blessing to those of us left behind. One thing I’ve learned after this devastating loss of a brilliant being is that we have to keep telling their stories, we have to keep saying their names. I lost my husband 20 years ago, and my only son 20 years before. I beat myself relentlessly, to the point I almost died myself, feeling I wasn't paying enough attention, doing enough to save them. My Dad had adopted a cat after my Mom passed and he helped him heal, they were the best of friends. When I lost my Dad in 2016, his cat of course came with me and became my best friend. It sounds dramatic but if I didn’t have him I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t have gotten through my grief and my guilt. We took care of each other. He made it to 19 years old, I had to say goodbye to him in January. I was so fortunate to have him in my life for almost 8 years. Anyway, I wish you peace and comfort.. bless you. 😊

The US made an agreement with Russia and Ukraine that if Ukraine gives up their nukes to Russia, Russia would not invade Ukraine and if they did, the US will come to their aid. Now, by not keeping the promise, the US looks weak. Who will make future treaty’s, agreements or any other negotiation with the US if the US just throws away their agreements based on the next President. By walking away from our agreements and not supporting our allies makes the US weak and strengthens our enemies like Russia, China, N. Korea and Iran. Russia is not our friend. But there are plenty of places in the world preferable to the US when it comes to - oh - healthcare, education, infrastructure, being able to go out in public without worrying about being shot, etc. There are other non partisan measures of "stellar" that don't have to do with the economy - or the upcoming elections - like quality of life, where we rank pretty darn low on the scale. I'm always turned off from the "we're number one" litany, no matter what political persuasion it comes from.

Totally agree with David Fromm. Also, the media in 2016 was infatuated with Trump and gave him a free pass. My mind drifts to a speech he gave at Liberty University with Trump rambled from topic to topic to topic with no clear theme but what was fascinating was the students in the audience as well as the media covering the event were enraptured. As someone who gave thousands of speeches and who grew up in local politics this was amazing. Trump was like the hula hoop. He was new and caught the attention of America. I had not heard about David Frum’s daughter and I send my wishes that they eventually find peace in their hearts. No matter how old your children are, part of them will always remain your “baby”. My kids are Tim’s age and every few years I will have a nightmare that I used to have when they were young. The setting will vary but the theme is always the same. We are in a crowd, become separated, my fears that they are in danger and I can’t find/reach them. I always wake up with my heart racing, tears running down my face and it takes a few minutes to calm down. I see or speak to my kids daily and generally know they are safe but the old fears occasionally resurface. I can’t imagine the pain if that nightmare were to become a reality. You expect your kids to outlive you.

I have to say that that was one thing that bugged me about this conversation. Mr Frum completely ignored the Palestinian side (no mention of the casualties, how they’re facing a human caused famine etc) and made not even a peep of criticism of Israel beyond the political situation with Netanyahu. I think that Hamas is a terrorist organization who not only terrorized Israel, but brought (and continue to bring suffering with their refusal to let the hostages go) so much suffering to their own people, but not acknowledging that Israel deserves some criticism for their actions in this war (aside from criticizing Netanyahu) was disappointing.
