Thanks for demonstrating these exercises. As an 18 year old college freshman (56 years ago) my new teacher introduced me to his warmup buzzing on the mouthpiece. He was familiar with it because he was - James (Jimmie) Stamp himself. After graduation I moved away from the trumpet and took up residence behind the conductor’s podium for choral and instrumental music. Only in the last 9 months in retirement have I come back to the trumpet. It’s frustrating, but I will be using your excellent videos. Thank you

Wow! You studied with James Stamp? Amazing! His mouthpieces and warm ups helped me rebuild my chops after getting smacked in the mouth leading to a mouthpiece repostioning. I'll do a video on them soon

One of my music teachers said that musicians are "small muscles athletes". This video reminded me of that.

That’s a very good way of explaining and understanding what us trumpeters are all about and how it all works 👍🏼

@@TrumpetTNT I have fallen off the daily routine wagon. Pressure of work, DIY, getting sick with Covid, Christmas performances, and so on. This is a timely reminder to get back into it for the new year. Hope you're well 🎺

Thank you, Simon; this is extremely helpful for me (comeback player). I like the way you combine several methods: Stamp, Clarke, Caruso, etc. So this is your short warm up routine because you're in a hotel room. I'm curious: do you have an extended warm up when you practice at home, and if so, how much time does it take you? Anyway, thanks again; very valuable information here.

You're very welcome! I'm glad that you are finding my videos helpful. My warm up routine is pretty much the same at home except that I usually do some free blowing eg jazz licks, simple melodies, etc to get my mind focused on playing as musically as possible during the routine. I often do the Bill Adam expanding long note exercise too which has been very beneficail. If this is something that you'd like to see a video on then please reply here :)

@@TrumpetTNT Thanks for your kind response, Simon. I'm a very senior citizen, playing 15 year after a 40-year lay-off. Jazz oriented; far from being a "pro" but I play well enough to get paying gigs and a few strokes here and there. It's never too late to learn, and I'm living proof, LOL. I'm not familiar with the Bill Adams method, though I've heard the name often. So, yes, I'd love to see a vid on that if you're so inclined. I'm mostly a Caruso follower, as that seems to have given me the most improvement. That said, I'm always open to new approaches. I'm going to check out some of your playing vids. Best luck with your career, and - stay warm.

Hey, thanks for the excellent video. You mention that your routine has changed a bit since shooting this. How and why did it change, if I may ask? :)
@TrumpetTNT
@TrumpetTNT 7 ай бұрын
Hi. Thanks for your question. My routine has gradually changed to address different areas of my playing that needed improvement. For example, I now do more tongue level and shape exercises (ee-ah-oh vowel sounds) from the Charles Colin book. My flexibility was something that I felt needed improving. Also, It’s always a good idea to freshen things up by changing routines incrementally over time (eg doing Clarke #1 single or ‘K’ tongued - at a comfortable tempo to promote consistency and evenness) This helps avoid wasting time on things you can already do and allows more time to work on stuff that really helps you improve as fast as possible. Please ask me a question whenever you need clarity. I’m here to help 😀
