Either his spit valve is really full or his lips just gave up on him. Either way it’s not really his fault. The fact that he just stayed calm about it is amazing! Bravery right there

@asher1013
@asher1013 2 жыл бұрын
@@danyy8000 yes that is true. But there are contributors. Like he either didn’t have a good warm up before hand and his chops aren’t ready to do the higher octaves, or maybe they were over worked by over practicing before hand. Nervousness is also something to consider too. People who are anxious while playing are much more prone to more mistakes. And the spit valve can also have too much spit in it sometimes causing a crackling noise. Those things could’ve contributed to his solo fail. But either way, he still tried and put in effort and at the end of the day it is a solo. It’s scary! Especially for beginners. And he gave it his all. I’m still proud of the guy for just getting himself out there. And even with the mistakes he still kept playing instead of just stopping. Which playing through mistakes is very hard to do. So hats off to him!

@@asher1013 yeah, spit valves are my biggest fear for an upcoming solo of mine. They get full after playing the song 2-3 times, so it's not a logical fear, but sometimes I forget to empty them. Also, centaurus is a lip killer, I swear on it.

When it comes to improvisation, I've always been taught that "There are no such things as wrong notes. There are only incorrect resolutions." If you happen to play a note that isn't on right the scale or key, the next note is what decides if it's good or bad in most cases. If the next note you play is on the correct scale and key, it's a proper resolution and the uneasiness of the accidental is resolved by the following note. If you follow it with more accidentals, then you're just playing out of key.

Five years ago, I had to play the second movement from Haydn at a performance. Nothing nervewrecking, just kind people in the audience. Yet I failed because I was so nervous that I couldn't play a note. I quitted trumpetplaying after this. Sold all my beloved trumpets exept one. This summer, however, I re-started trumpetplaying. Joined a local orchestra and I'm relearning how to play. I've got huge respect for my brother trumpetter in this video and hope he did not do what I did.

People keep saying that maybe he is a begginer. No band teacher with a brain would give a begginer a solo. On second hand don't bash the guy for messing up he could've been over playing practicing his solo all day then his lips gave in in the end. When someone messes up how wbout we encourage them to do better instead of talking about how much better we are then them.

I don't think puffing your cheeks alters your ability to play higher notes. I think it's all about your embouchure and how comfortable your lips are to the point where you can play the exact note right away. There are some slight disadvantages to puffing your cheeks like possibly not having enough breathe. I personally blow longer when I don't puff my cheeks but if you know how to circular breathe it shouldn't be a problem. It all depends on how comfortable you are when you blow through your instrument and if you can play notes perfectly it shouldn't be a problem.

I'm really dismayed viewing the callous and inept comments. The kid was trying hard. If you are at a concert and expect perfection or close to it...don't even go. The negative comments will hurt the player for the rest of his life. Yes...many of your scarred him. Yep...I taught middle school band...it can be exceptionally rewarding and at times, not so much. If other band teachers are reading this comment...the only suggestion I have is, at that playing level...have the entire section or at least three kids do the solo. The audience doesn't give a rip if the section covers it. If I was aware of a video of one my concerts and they berated the kids....I would subtly read them the riot act and demand the video be removed. For myself, the only thing that matters is if they feel good and proud of what they do.

My brother is a trumpet player who's completely full of himself. He always tells me that the trumpets are the best (I play flute French horn and mellophone during marching season) This will prove him wrong :]

It's obvious the poor kid had a problem with his nerves (he was playing ok before the solo). He needs to know that every trumpet player makes mistakes and not to put so much weight on a simple little solo like this (though, honestly, the arrangement of the music left a lot to be desired, too)

@EternalOwn Dizzy didn't actually puff his cheeks. They herniated from the muscles underneath. Inside his mouth the muscles were firm as if not puffing.

@Soeisinger A lot of people (including me) never had the money for a teacher growing up. I really don't think that's part of the issue at all. If the kid is this bad either he doesn't care enough or the band director doesn't care enough. I'm 19, currently play with 3 music groups at my university, and have never had a private teacher. Sure, I may never come close to going pro, but I'm good enough to enjoy what I play. It's harder without a teacher but really he just needs to practice.

biggest problems. 1 the embouchure is terrible. fix it and youll do much better 2 use more support from the diaphragm and 3 lose the tention when you play. look up one of the Allen Vizzutti trumpet seminars on YT, theres one that is five parts long. It will help you tremendously. ....holy hell the woodwinds are out of tune at 1:20. well that goes for most HS woodwinds for you....

This is from a trumpet player to another trumpet player. First of all get rid of the puffey cheeks. Second of all just calm down. Trumpet solo's can be pretty tough, but to make them easier is by relaxing your shoulders and hands. Buzz your lips to get your lips "warmed" up. That way you can reach higher notes. But good try to play the solo. :)

Message to the band director: You know... if you only have 1 trumpet player in your entire band, and he isn't all that good, DON'T PICK A SONG WITH A TRUMPET SOLO! I think the fail in this case is on the part of the director. The kid can't help if he's bad at the trumpet.

@Stevo2426 I can't believe you said that. First of all, that was his first ever solo. He was nervous. When you get the chance to play a solo, (if you are ever rewarded with such an opputunity) try not to choke. Believe me, it happens to the best of us. And the best of players.

In his defense, it's a possibility that he just got braces on or something... I got braces on a couple weeks before a concert and my solos sounded like shit. But it's still funny. My whole section was laughing too and i laughed afterwards. Dont let shit like that get you down. Just keeping working at it!

just saying, if you didn't want your friend to get bad, feeback, then why post a video labeled with "epic fail"? its really bad. not going to lie, so if you don't want your friend getting smashed with negative comments, take the video down. simple as that
