Thanks for your dedication. the problem I see in these books as a beginner are the high notes, I can reach them it's frustrating, to get ahead, it takes time to develop these high notes in these books. Love your videos !

Awesome video. I love your recommended approach to Arban's. Do you suggest one week each before moving on, or if move on ahead once you get it under the fingers?

+Tim Curry I think if you are steadily working your way through the book one a one-week approach is best. This may take a bit of adjusting to figure out how much to work on out of each section. 4-6 weeks in all will settle into place. There is never a hurry, if something needs another week keep that study for another week and move to the next study on the other sections. Some things just need to be cooked longer. Best, Jon

I'm 72. Just picking up the trumpet. What about the beginning learner who wants to know what to do in the beginning to practice. I know nothing about music. I was great at whistling but now I want to learn. Help.

Great suggestions. I’m trying to help a student who moves his jaw when he tongues. Trying mirror, touching chin with finger, etc. nothing has helped. His jaw moving has really limited his progress. I might add that I can demonstrate the proper tonguing technique

+ForTheWinter Yes. There are a few options. 1) "Orchestral Excerpts From the Symphonic Repertoire for Trumpet." Published by International Music Company. This can be found on Amazon and various other sheet music sellers. It comes in 10 volumes and covers all the major trumpet excerpts from Baroque to Modern periods. 2) If you're interested in excerpts from the Renaissance and Baroque period, then look for "J.S. Bach Complete Trumpet Repertoire." Replace J.S. Bach with other period composers. Published by Musica Rara. 3) There are several etude books that incorporate famous orchestral excerpts. The 2 that I have are "Etudes for Trumpet Orchestra Etudes and Last Etudes," by Vassily Brandt and "Orchestral Etudes for the Advanced Trumpeter," by Sigmund Hering.

Do you know any good practice books for C trumpet? Everything I find is for Bb trumpet, but does that matter? I know C trumpet is a whole tone above the Bb, but I don't want to transpose everything for practice exercises. Please let me know. Thank you! :)

Gregor Grigorian Develop a balanced diet that you consume over the course of a week not each day but over the course of a week. Work on each aspect for10 to 15 minutes and then move onto the next aspect. You might even write yourself out a schedule. Best, Jon

Rufftips in my Conservatory (Argentina) it's for the first year. We use it for tonguing and then for the duets that have a lot of articulation, it helped my attack (the first pages). I've never heard a couple of your books, so I guess is all complementary. Some excercises are "repeated", some are better. I stopped playing trumpet because I had no place for study and I went to piano. But I always watch your videos because of your approach and I want to feel like I still go to class (:D). Maybe at the end of the year I start from scratch with the Trumpet Have a nice day

Rufftips I spent some time with 2 of Claude's students and that's where I learned what books and how to break them down (that's the reason I asked) to organize a practice routine that fit me instead of a generic set or routine. I'm also influenced by others as well.
