Michael Mansheim I think we both agree on the point that, "in communist state there is no market", in Russia throughout the cold war era, job market did exist. Now, coming to HDI, let's measure based upon RI(Religious Index, (there is no such Index)) middle east fares far better than western Europe, the point I would like to make is development have many meanings, according to some it is modern education, for some religious education, for some staying alive, for some living with honor, for some it is social security, for some it is wealth, we should not force one meaning of development on others. Protect diversity
@djrocksgaming6255
@djrocksgaming6255 6 жыл бұрын
Michael Mansheim The Soviet Union wasn't communist-it was socialistic (it was technically a mixed-market economy). There has NEVER been a communist country, as communism can't be communism if the state is involved. Denmark isn't socialist either; it's social democratic, which is still capitalism but more industries are socialized and there's a welfare state involved. Btw, I live in Texas, and the only reason that Texas is doing good is because of its natural resources (something California doesn't exploit very much) and the liberal cities like Houston and Austin.

A couple of problems here. While improved education and training may help Americans become more competitive with the countries that produce parts for Boeing, how would they help Americans be more competitive with China, Mexico and Guatemala? Secretary Riech gives a lecture that is clearly motivated by politics. I would like him to explain how American manufacturing workers are to compete against workers from third world countries making a fraction of their wages. Huffy bicycles, Radio Flier wagons and and Arrow shirts are not made in Japan or Europe. But they were once made in the US. And where do you suppose they are made today? Mr Riech should visit Millville NJ, Bridgeton NJ,and Bethlehem PA and tell the people how his ideas will get the jobs back. Saying that the US must invest in better training and education is just politicianspeak for "We really don't have a plan at all".

"the conscious consumer" is the latest thing in norway. more and more people choose quality products from norway over cheap crappy things from china, over child labor products, over long distance shipped products, over unethically produced products, but we can afford to use our voice as consumers and be patriotic in our shopping. the reason we can afford it, involves the rest of the economic and political system in our country. particularly that our system have largely made social mobility upwards possible for most people since the end of WW II. the off-spring has generally been better off than their parents for the last 4-5 generations. neither is consumerism in the form of buy-and-throw as strong as in the US any more. many norwegians (and other western europeans as well) have switched their priorities. we did have that big consumerism trend, but it is a trend that has decreased. spending money on quiet places/holiday real estates, mountain hiking trips and experiences, and making leisure periods as peaceful and quiet as possible, over huge houses and lots of things, is the new trend. this trend is linked to environment consciousness as well. this trend is going back to the old days, in a way. some of the items you buy - sometimes handcrafted - might cost several times more than something produced in china, but you know it will also last you a lot longer, sometimes for generations.

When the plane was first being made, their were some big problems with parts made in other countries not fitting together. That was a serious problem at the start. And it was easy to fault the company for outsourcing the wages and parts while retaining the risk for things not fitting. I think sales were delayed because of this, and that made money tight at Boeing for a while. Of course, i think money is tight when any new aircraft is starting up.

When I worked for an aerospace firm, we subcontracted on a bid which was to study a particular French technology. But the bid had the customary Buy American clause added. So the prime contractor subcontracted with us to acquire the items. I have watched many of your videos and you have convinced me much of conservative economics just isn’t working for most Americans. I don’t buy into all of it, but if you made some progress with a cranky old soldier like me, keep it up.

isnt trumps plan to increase manufacturing and tariffs. Companies are smart enough to make a cost analysis of import export as well as if they should open a factory internationally. If more factories are opened in America and we pay less for imports thats a win... up to covid all the data point towards trumps economic growth plan working. The goal isnt to build parts here if the cost of sourcing the raw materials is more expensive... its to increase manufacturing jobs and have better import export deals that dont force us to lose jobs to globalism. Also the definition of made is "to bring into being by combining, shaping, or transforming materials". God you tds really cant take off the blinders during the crusade xD

Almost any American knows that all products are made as the results of several countries. You would think that a Wharton UNDERgraduate would know that too. trump shouldn't have paid those students to go to class for him, take his tests, and write his papers... maybe he would have learned to read and write too.

Robert Desrosiers (not related to me) was drilling us about Unions History in class at University. It gave me the impression half of our modern history was linked to Unions History. Maybe I should have listened more attentively.

The Dreamliner was an interesting engineering project where yes, parts were built by different contractors to undergo final assembly in the US. There is plenty on it if you feel like reading supply chain case studies.

To compare American capitalism's pursuit of profit at all costs to a reference from fiction, American capitalism is very like Star Trek's Ferengi.

I'm a retired teacher and it is embarrassing how bad our public education system is. We have the information about how to make our schools better, but the Republicans and the 1% are so busy lining their pockets that they refuse to fund or support education.

If you took Trump out of the equation and asked if you would rather build an economic wall around america or invest more in america to bolster economy, pretty much every conservative would choose the latter.

Sorry to say this to my American friends but when shopping, I have often put back a household product because of the Made in the USA mark and gotten one from Japan, Germany or Korea. This is to be sure it will be reliable and can be repaired. If something goes wrong with an American product, I usually have to just throw it away. For the same reason I will buy US over China any day.

787 was in the limelight in early 2013 because of the battery problem, from there it became well-known that Boeing had thousands of sub-suppliers from all over the world making parts for 787. Can Boeing manufacture this plane 100% on American soil? I strongly doubt it, even after the Dec 2017 tax scam cutting corporate taxes, which supposed to bring jobs back to American workers, except, can Boeing find qualified US workers?

I think it will take luring foreign manufacturing companies to the USA to set up factories here. This could be part of a shrewd trade deal with the EU, with China, with Japan, and other developed economies. I don't think increasing spending on education will do it, nor will healthcare. Right now, that would be a boondoggle wasteful spending program. We don't have national health insurance because we CAN'T AFFORD IT.

Automakers from Japan and Germany have set up massive operations in the U.S. and Trump still rages against them. He doesn't understand how global supply chains work with respect to manufacturing. It's also important to note that regarding services - where the U.S. consistently runs a huge trade surplus with the rest of the world - they might just as well not exist as far as Trump is concerned, because he really does not seem to grasp that whole aspect of the trade equation at all. His mindset is stuck firmly in the mid-20th century.
