Other things that make ghost rager an interesting card; We haven’t had a rager in what feels like forever. If it isn’t infused it becomes 1 mana “progress all your infuses by 1” which I think is interesting. This set would be the one to print our first even instance of a 0 health minion.

Regarding "Negative Quests", I'd say make that a new mechanic, a sort of contract. Rogues accept a hit request, Paladins make a vow, Warlocks make a demonic pact and so on and so forth, a continuous buff that runs on a timer and punishes you if you don't achieve some goal.

I mean the simple answer is to just make the phylactery a warlock weapon. Basically a counterpart to the legendary Warrior bulwark where it loses durability each time it reduces/prevents damage, and give it 'deathrattle: you die, horribly'.

4:30 the designers have used 'kill' as a stand-in for 'destroy' a TON of times over Hearthstone's life - just go to the online card library and search for 'kill'! Most recently one of the Mage skeleton spells from this very set uses the phrase "for each one killed" The one thing I'll give Trump on this is that the phrase "killed someone" is probably a little too gruesome, and would be better phrased as "killed something"

Almost immediately Kidnap was revealed with a replacement effect worded closer to Gnomish Escape's templating than Freezing Trap. That's why it's funny.

You missed the joke with Surreptitious Sorcerer! It's a Six mana Stealth with Spell damage +6 and Spellburst: Silence this mana. It's a Six Six. If you change the spell damage to 2, you lose another S sound. Of course, this doesn't translate well.

Squishy have another problem - interaction with the legendary that make your deck 40 cards. It's not obvious which of them will take priority, and even if it will be 40 cards - it just means that any 40 cards decks become 39 card deck. Aka, same problem. Need to change wording as "deck need to include an additional card" instead, or something like "deck size +1".

@@Deathnom not at all. You can "suggest" it based on possible "mechanic limitation", but it's definitely not even tiny bit obvious based on wording. In 90% of games, it would be either "only biggest effect is active" or "effects applied in the order of playing" (in our case, may be the order of putting it in the deck [which is pretty scummy/exploity way of handling that], or the order by the cost). For the card to be mutually exlusive - it can't happen "by accident" or "by default", developersneed to make "custom rule" independently. And if they would do that, they for sure mention it in the wording as well. Easiest way out for them would be discarding "hard set" of deck size, and change both of the effects into relative change of it, like "deck size +10" and "deck size +1" respectively.

If it disrupts an entire combo, and you know exactly what piece they need, then it's certainly worth spending mana on. That's basically an instant win. And against quicker decks you can just throw it away on a low mana card. Very flexible.

C'thun was excellent in the first cycle of it, had support cards and sort of a balanced board presence while building to the ultimate, with maybe a shenanigans or 2. But if you didn't get enough of his support, if the opponent built too strong of a board, it might not finish the job. There were some good nailbiters back then.

Even if you ignore the *Honorable Kill* mechanic there are tons of cards in Hearthstone that use the word "kill" or "killed" like Kill Command, Mortal Coil, Icy Touch, Outrider's Axe, Kargath Prime, Burrowing Scorpid, Tranpling Rhino, ... Pretty massive oversight when it's literally the name of a mechanic in standard right now. Also Blizzard does not care that puns don't translate, otherwise they wouldn't print cards like Goody Two-shields.

@@RibusPQR Goody two-shields, if translated simply, doesn't actually work, because as far as I'm aware, goody two-shoes is a phrase that's very specific to English, and if you tried to use it anywhere else, people would wonder what's wrong with you. The name is also the only source of flavour for the card, there's nothing else other than the name explaining why they have two (divine) shields. All puns "make sense if you change the name." I mean, at that point, you're literally talking about deleting what's there and writing a new pun that makes sense, which is not that difficult. That's what studios have done for decades when dubbing pretty much any movie. Btw, if you want to talk about puns that don't translate, try implosion. I'm pretty sure that one doesn't translate to pretty much anything on any level, unless they also use the word imp to refer to a demon and derive their word for explosion/implosion from Latin. Blizzard obviously never gave a crap about puns being easily translatable, which is not a problem. I'm playing an American game and I don't have this surreal expectation that it make perfect sense in my language. No idea why Trump has such a stick up his butt about this. I mean complaining about this stuff would be like demanding that all references to WoW be removed from Hearthstone cards, because it's alienating to people who never played WoW.

Jo-E Bot was translated to "'Mecanguri'' and ''Jury'' is literally translated to ''Júri'' The saying in portuguese goes ''Juiz, Júri e Executor'', with the pun it would be something like ''Juiz, Guri e Executor'', which is a single letter difference.

Phylactery might make more sense as a 0/10 weapon: Every time your hero takes damage, remove one durability instead. Deathrattle: Your hero dies, horribly. From a flavor and readability perspective, this is way more sensible, but now it has the new problem of being hard countered by acidic swamp ooze, which is way more common than sacrificial pact and Jaraxxus. [9:45] Fun fact, if you remove the Quest mechanic from this card and write it as: "For the rest of the game, your hero can only take 1 damage at a time. After taking 10 damage, your hero dies." it goes from 5 lines of text to 4, so there is just no reason to use the Quest except to get it in your starting hand which you most likely don't want.

Card Theft is unimaginably weak. Death Grip was universally considered to be the worst Death Knight card, and Card Theft will usually cost more, will have to be played as the last card of your turn, requires a ton of assumptions about what cards your opponent is playing and has in their hand, AND after all that it will still whiff and hit the wrong card more often than not. And as an added bonus, if they don't have any cards of that mana cost left in their deck (which is likely in the late game), it just does nothing.

You can't compare a card you can run in your deck to a death knight card. Theyre all intentionally broken, and the soonest you could get them out was the turn after you played an 8 drop. Card theft also functions totally differently in that it's aimed at getting specific cards which is a much different game than getting a random one. I think it's a cool tech card, the problem I see with it is that for most players it will read as useless and be a disappointing legendary, but it's too dangerous of a card to have multiples of in a deck.

Honestly, if Gnomish Escape just tranformed the minion into the 1/1, the flavour would make way more sense. You play a minion but it's a fake, a disguised gnome who pops out of their costume. Rename it "Gnomish Charade" and it kinda works. However, I would still rate the flavour fairly low, due to the fact that the secret would trigger AFTER battlecries. So for example Deathwing would still wipe the board and then.... it's a Gnome that did all that? How? That doesn't make sense. It would have to completely counter the card, but countering minions isn't a thing unlike in Magic. Edit: Actually it is. We have one card that does it, so the version I proposed would indeed work.

you could make an entire set around "useless teammates" a 'dps' with 1 health and high attack that has stealth, but has a 50% chance to attack a random enemy as battlecry. (pulling aggro and dying without support). a healer that at the end of each turn has a 50% chance to either restore 1 health to all other friendly characters, or gain +2 health itself.

I think the "GUILTY!" can be a paladin secret that "when an enemy minion attacks and kills a friendly minion, destroy it". I don't think "kill" is too much for HS because "honorable kill" exists.

The Ner'Zhul's Phylactery i think should be as follows "Start of game : Cast this spell. Your life becomes 10. You can only take one damage at a time Your maximum life total cannot be changed" possibly give it no cost of its own (shifting scroll style) so it can't be cast later as a way to gain effective health. there may also be a problem surrounding damage permanence since warlock has cards like Drain Life. Possibly make it so you can only gain one life or take one damage at a time to counteract that, but still. that last clause also means you can't use cards like old Alexstraza to gain an extra buffer. or, heaven forbid a deathrattle thief priest gets their hands on it and uses this before the "battlecry, your life total becomes 40" As far as Surreptitious sorcerer goes, i think you could probably make it +3 spell damage, since it is a one-time effect, i think that puts it generally in line with the Kirin Tor Tricaster. its a spell damage boost, but with a downside. that one makes your spells cost 1 more, this one is a one-time effect. possibly rekey it as "when a spell you control deals damage", so it slips past those niche cases. though that might be a phrasing that doesn't work in hearthstone. i know that would work in MTG.

Ner'Zhul's Phylactery could be rebranded as a 0/10 weapon that says "Whenever your hero would take damage, this loses 1 durability instead. This weapon can't lose durability or be destroyed otherwise. Deathrattle: destroy your hero." It may be a bit wordy, but at least there isn't the bad quest reward. It's also a bit stronger because you can play it at 1 hp.

Imagine if Squishy was a 0 mana 0/0 with text that says: "When you draw this card, summon Squishy outside of the play area and draw a card. This card doesn't count towards the deck limit." and it'd be entirely cosmetic. That would be a kinda fun way to add cosmetics like Runeterra pets to the game. I imagine most people wouldn't want to wait for their cosmetic pet to be drawn and you'd have to make some special hidden rules that you can't summon it from the deck and it can't start in your hand. Or maybe have the text be "If this card appears in the game, summon it outside of the play area and continue the effect that made it appear as if that didn't happen. This card doesn't count towards the deck limit.". I think with this wording you could make it just happen basically at random when you take cards from the deck for any purpose (draw, joust, discover, summon) without interfering.

Squishy: Start of game: Summon squishy, and replace him with a random neutral card. Immune, cannot be targetted, can't gain attack. He's just a mascot that takes a board spot, and your deck is random because of having him.

Highroll to get Peasant, proceed to win b/c you're drawing two cards each turn EZ Or Stormwind Champion, which is Keleseth without deck restrictions and having to draw and play a 2 mana 2/2 and makes minions immune to Equality. Or even Raid Leader. Or any Watch Post. Or a spell damage minion. Or Ozumat/Neptulon to instantly spawn 6 1/3s or 2 4/2s. Or Brann, Geddon, Gadgetzan, BGBM, Abominable Lieutenant, core set Onyxia, etc., etc. So no, one star design, one star balance. He's either crap that takes up a board space or an uninteractable aura. At least until someone uses mass hard removal, at which point deathrattle minions also become relevant. One of two players will feel bad each game.

Could the rager also be used as infuse fodder. Say you top deck it. Play it and have it due immediately, then play your hood infuse card the rager just activated

14:00 i would probably make it a 6 mana 6/3 with spell damage +3 or something. In almost all cases Stealth minions have more attack than health, also it would make it a bit more susceptible to aoe. 14:50 i think the rager is common because (i believe) most/all ragers are common cards so it has to have that gem.

Had to pause the video to challenge trump on the "kill is too strong a word for Hearthstone". There are many many examples of kill being used in hearthstone. In fact even the verbiage use on the custom card is correct. In all cases I could find except kill command which is just the name of the card, the use of the word is always past tense or third person, such as "killed the target" or "after this attacks and kills a minion". The only flaw I could reasonably suggest in the text is that the word "someone" should be replaced with "a character" to remain consistent. Just a list of examples for anyone curious - Kill command, and all the following have the text "kills a minion", "killed the target" or some alteration still using "kill" as the action: Wing commander ichman, burrowing scorpid, hulking overfiend, outriders axe, soul rend, lotus assassin, finja, darius crowley, pyromaniac, trampling rhino, batterhead, bane of doom, holy water, wanted, giant sand worm, the boogeymonster, and many more. If you type kill in the client for yourself you can read what I didn't list here. This is of course also not mentioning "overkill", a mechanic not in standard at the moment, and "honorable kill", a mechanic which is in standard at the moment.

For Gnomish Escape, I think the roguish flavor should be that of a secret agent ripping off a disguise to reveal that it was just a 1/1 gnome (or murloc, or whatever) the entire time. Oh, you thought you were playing Bolderfist Ogre? Well it was really me! DIO!

A small extra for Ghost Rager is that in an emergency you can play it un-infused to infuse your other cards in hand. Very niche and you wouldn't put the card in your deck just for that, but still somewhat useful and unique to Ghost Rager

I feel like Gnomish Escape is a great card. I think some level of understanding has to be had considering they're probably working with limited images here. I see it as the Gnome disguised himself as the minion or hid within something the minion has and when you summon the main minion you're fooled and the gnome pops out instead.

But what does a gnome disguised as your minion in your hand have to do with the ENEMY rogue secret? Like, he was already there since the beginning and only after it the rogue would play the secret. Also, it would have to "counter" the minion transforming it on a gnome, not summoning a gnome and returning the minion you played to your hand

Suggestion for "guilty", The card could read "Destroy an enemy minion that survived combat damage last turn" But this draws upon M:TG, and might be not only wordy for Hearthstone, but also such a niche card that it may not even be included for tech options. It fills a role in its own way, but could have equally been a "Deal x damage" card and fulfill more role than it might with current hypothetical design. Overall I like the idea though, there is definitive workable space there.

Can the ghost rager also be played WITHOUT the infuse to trigger other cards' infuse? Cause 0 health means it dies and infuse is triggered by a minion that dies?

I think that the spell damage minion at the end would be powerful but not overpowered (except for the obvious cards that are a problems like gorrote and puzzle box) Because you can't really set up well with it in rogue and mage because a lot of there kit relies on spell usage. You have to make sure that your next spell is indeed the one ment to deal the damage. Because the card won't hold your hand, it is a spellburst which means even if you play a buff or card draw or anything else. It will trigger and silence the minion including it's stealth. So you don't have a lot of plays to make until you use up that spell damage in reality.

Surreptitious sorcerrer is broken beyond belief. Play it on 6, on 7 you play a spell that does ~10dmg and he attacks for 6. Thats half the opponents hp with 2 cards

There might be some weird Ghost Rager effects depending on how it works with a 0-health minion. Does it die when you play it, or can you not play it all if it has 0 health? If you can play it but it immediately dies, there would be some weird 'when a minion dies' or 'if a friendly minion died this turn' interactions if you top-deck it.

Can't think of any card names right now but over the years i've seen some. (think "when x gets summoned, deal damage to it" and field buffs get applied first) There's some small details i suppose but all in all i would be willing to bet that's how it looks.

Card theft against hunter you could steal a 2 mana spell that would hurt their quest and has board clear also stealing tracking is good in the early game so the card is still useful
