That's nu metal for ya. It's mostly known for having simple as hell riffs, but that's not always the case nor it's a bad thing as long it sounds like music.

It's not as easy as it looks to make simple riffs sound great, as long as there are good hooks. Adam Jones from Tool is the king of turning simple into a masterpiece. Obviously a lot of his riffs are very technical and difficult, but the simple ones that just flow with the song makes the band the legends that they are.
