TRUTH ~ Great informative accurate presentation. Thank you Bear SF. We must admit that the glass is beautiful when tumbled by the sea. Jewlers & artists go down to the sea shore to collect & repurpose it. Hopefully someday it will be all cleaned up & used & appreciated in beautiful aret & jewelry. Until then, it is as far as nature is concerned just a different shape of silica on the shore. : )

Is there a reason you sometimes whip out the geiger counter?
@BearSF2 жыл бұрын
We have the detector because we are fossils collectors (mostly buying petrified wood on ebay). For this kind of hobby, you need something to measure radiation. But it also fun to check out the radiation in different places. Radiation is invisible and uncovering invisible is interesting. Check out our collections at kzbin.info

@@BearSFOh okay..lol.. just making sure there's no radioactive beaches around that I don't know about... I go to many of them 😊

Point Lobos is a bit radioactive kzbin.info/www/bejne/l3vRhmVorriBfrc Let''s say "above the background" but not dangerously. The reason is the granite and the basalt on the beaches. Sandy beaches tend to have much lower levels of radiation.

You might get that kind of feeling if you combine 100-years old junk and the ocean mist.

We were disappointed when we went a couple of years ago. The main beach (I guess) was closed like at the 2:08 point in your video. We didn't see any glass? Yet, you still got down there to view the glass?
@BearSF4 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, we came in the morning and then in the evening. I guess the secret is to come at low tide. There is a little beach right in front of the rock occupied by birds (a bit north of the closed/fenced part). You should follow the crowd. But if you did not see people on the shore, it was likely a high-tide time. Hope you will be more lucky next time. Cheers!

Also, one should note that the original glass all long gone. What tourists are now collecting there is new glass, tumbled and dumped there. To keep people coming back year after year.

Nice report bear, there is a strange beauty with seeing the glass in that environment. Just a pity about the rest of the trash on our beaches. See ya.

Anyone got recent news of the beach ? Is it still up, full of glass ? Because I want to travel to California so by the same time I’ll visit it, thanks
@BearSF3 жыл бұрын
Hi! My understanding is that the glass may come and go depending on the weather (calm or storm). You will likely have more luck at low tide (check the tide charts for the right timing). I doubt you will see much at high tide.

ik no one can take glass from the beach but when i went to fort bragg i went to that beach and some family was taking buckets full of glass... i clearly told my parents and told some near by security dude and he didnt do anything :(

man thats so sick. you ought to take charge and throw it back. if people keep doing that we might have to shut down tourism so people cant come anymore to steal the glass

if you want to break the rules and take glass you can just take a handful not numerous buckets

The glass use to be so deep you had to dig down a foot before you came to sand/pebbles. People have taken so much glass. The pic on pintress of a beach of glass use to be real. 🎵 " Where has all the glass gone? long time passing. Where has all the glass gone? Long time ago. Where has all the glass gone? Eveyone took "some". When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn? 🎵 People please stop advertising this place before it is all gone. :(

Hi Lisa! Thanks for the comment. On one hand, I agree - the places like this should be left alone, untouched. On the other hand, nothing is constant in this word. Everything changes, mountains disappear given enough time. I think, it's easier if we will not hang to something and "go with the flow" while enjoying the journey. Remember: "let it be" kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoTKhnVuiZ2NnNk

As far as I remember, it was free but I'm not 100% sure. We stayed at Travelodge (763 N Main St, Fort Bragg, CA) and walked few blocks. You can always park on nearby streets.
