In the heart of Sontang, a tribal village nestled within the Gomti District of Tripura, a silent protest unfolded as its residents resolved to boycott the Lok Sabha polling. Their resolute stance stemmed from the dire state of a crucial 7-kilometer village road, a lifeline for this community of approximately 900 individuals. Situated within the Tripura East Lok Sabha constituency, their fervent advocacy for road repairs underscores its indispensable role in their daily lives. Our team embarked on a journey to uncover the realities of this village, where the women's voices resonated with tales of despair during the rainy season, transforming their home into a veritable inferno. Cut off from the rest of the state when the rains pour, Sontang becomes an isolated island, besieged by the twin demons of Malaria and diarrhea. Through this ground report, we peel back the layers of neglect, amplifying the urgent plea of a marginalized community clamoring for basic infrastructure to safeguard their well-being.
