Featured in TIR Episode 218, Part 1 of 2 (see Part 2 here • "TRUTH IN RHYTHM" - An... ): The original drummer for Rufus Featuring Chaka Khan, Andre Fischer, who has also played on and produced more than 100 recordings for some of music’s biggest stars and talents. They include Natalie Cole, Rene & Angela, the Isley Brothers, Betty Wright, Gladys Knight, Nancy Wilson, Nina Simone, Patti Labelle, Dr. John, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra.
He was with Rufus through 1977, during which time the group had four straight Top 5 R&B albums and produced funk and soul classics like “Tell Me Something Good,” “You Got the Love,” “Once You Get Started,” “Pack’d My Bags,” “Sweet Thing,” “Dance Wit Me,” “At Midnight,” “Hollywood” and “Everlasting Love.” Prior to that, Fischer played with icons like Curtis Mayfield, Jerry Butler, Gene Chandler and Eddie Harris. Later on, he became a record co. executive and got involved in music academia.

I remember going to a Tower Record in Seattle by the Space Needle. They had boxes of Unforgettable with Posters and displays. It was 6 feet high dead center as you come in the door. I had never seen such promotion for a Jazz Album. I came back two weeks later and the had sold all of those units which was over 10,000 cds. Electra did the thing right.

I knew he was going to try to take the credit for the success of Unforgettable! He is still bitter David won producer of the year for that project.

There are many times when people do something that ends up a lot of acclaim and someone else gets the credit for it. That happens a lot in entertainment and its very human to want to tell the real story. Debbie Allen was a key person in getting the movie Amistad brought to the screen and she barely got credit as the real producer. There are a lot of story like that
