The Truthear Hola was a great budget set, but appears to be discontinued now. The Gate seems like the Hola without the bass. At that price point, I would pick either the Nuo or HBBxQKZ, depending on how much you like bass. If you like tucked bass, the KZ Castor bass is a good pick.

Expectations were low because it was an inexpensive product, but the basic equipment seems to be a wonderful product.

The Gate doesn't seem to be a new version of the Hola. The tuning is different. The graininess might fade away with use. The Cadenza had a raspy or grainy edge to male vocals, yet this completely faded away by the time that I had around 100 hours of listening time with the Cadenza. It didn't start to fade away until around 50 hours.

Great review. It shows how far the iem game has gone seeing a budget iem that sounds like aria considering aria was considered one of the best back then, and at a much higher price point.

Still rocking Blo3. Might want to buy new set, because now I'm noticing it's drawbacks and limitations, it's little banged up as well. And now I'm aware of my tuning preferences. But It is still holding after almost 2.5 years, my previous earphones are always ends up dying within a year.

Nice addition from Truthear, but its another instance to adjust your expectations to the budget. 20 bucks wont buy you anything outstanding. This seems a lot like the Hola. Perhaps a bit improved, but i dount its noticeable unless heard side by side. If i was to pick, i'd much rather this than the Zero2 though

I think Truthear forgot that the $20 IEM range is bigger than it was when they released Hola. Personally I'd pick Ziigaat Nuo over GATe...

Sorry but it seems my sense of sound is not the same as yours. I personally got both the nuo based on your rec and the tinhifi elf…I liked the elf more, even though the nuo’s bass was indeed MUCH superior. if anything the nuos have that harsh and grainy treble, but sets with the scooped 10khz do not, not really to my ears

Glad your feeling better! There's are better alternatives at 20-25 USD. Step up to 30-35 and there's the TRN Conch and EW200 which is already a nice upgrade.

@@JohnClarkW I can't tell much about it since I only own the EW200, but if I recall correctly it, the TRN comes with a wide array of accessories, including tuning nozzles. But considering the good reviews and the fact that it trade blows with the EW200 I think it's a valid option.

That moondrop is the Ah-ree-uh. I wasn't a fan of the Aria 1 and never gave the 2 a shot. Idk what's even going on in the ultra budget range anymore. I don't need to tell you, but never feel bad on ripping into something if it deserves it. Regardless of whether it's sent to you by the brand or not
