Truxedo Sentry CT tonneau Cover two and a half years later. How well does it hold up?

Its been two and a half years since I installed my tonneau cover from truxedo. I go over how well the cover has held up over the two years and any issues that have arose over the ownership as well as if I would buy it again.

Thanks - I was looking for a review of the CT after a few years of use. I have to say, I'm not impressed overall with the condition of the CT material cover (looks like it holds stains, pollen, dust) and I don't like the velcro closures, loose pieces and bubbling. For almost $1000 I'd expect better longevity. After having a tri-fold on 2 trucks, this time I was looking for a hard roll-up and was deciding between the Truxedo and Bak Revolver. I heard/saw/read the Revolver X4"S" version made great improvements. Although they're similar, I think you pushed me toward that. Thanks for your candid review.

I have had my Trucido for 14 1/2 yrs and it is still in good shape. When I get my new pickup this fall I will buy another without question.

I have an Access Lorado which looks similar but is not reinforced with aluminum. It was under $350 and has a lifetime warranty. Mine is 15 years old. At about year 10 the stitching around the edge was fraying and I contacted them and they quickly sent out a new cover for free. I highly recommend them for anyone looking. For maintenance I use 303's convertible and soft top cleaner. It has kept mine looking new. I don't understand why more people don't use soft covers. They are a great addition to a truck. Most people still think of the old tonneau covers that are saggy and have snaps. I live having one and usually keep an ice chest and a couple chairs in my truck out of sight.

1. Because they can't support considerable snow and 2. A soft roll-up can be sliced through in seconds. While nothing is theft proof, hard roll-ups offer more security simply because it takes more effort. To me in the North East, soft covers are useless and not much more than a fancy tarp. I get that they're $200 as opposed to $850 but it's worth it to many people.

I have a similar Tuxedo installed on my 2019. Outside of color discoloration due to pollen, it's held up great. No leaks and velcro still strong. 👍

I have the North Mountain soft cover for my 2023 RTL, got it from Amazon for 237.$. I wanted my trunk lid to open fully. And keep as much bed length available as possible. It was easy for me to install, looks nice, and does its job well.

Interesting I was considering this and the Xtang ALX hard trifold with all those issue you convinced to to go with the hard trifold. Thx btw there over 1k now.

Hi Yuriy, if your warranty won't fix it you can easily fix your cracked plastic with soldering iron. weld the crack from both sides. Then heat bended latch and bend it in proper place.

Check with Truxedo. The bubbling and the loose plastic pieces may justify a warranty replacement as long as you registered your cover for warranty and you’re within the warranty period (I think 5 years for that cover). Also, if I’m not mistaken, Truxedo has a cleaner or conditioner. The only thing is is that I’m not sure if it’s for the fabric or vinyl covers or both.

I have had 2 Truxedo hard roll covers in 4 years. What fails is the adhesive to the metal slats and the metal slats fall out. I'm at 2.5 years no and just purchased a pase Edwards jackrabbit. Spoke to Truxedo, they honored the 1st warranty but the replacement is now out of warranty so I'm trying another brand. Otherwise @ 2 years Velcro is good, latches are good, everything else is good. It's just the adhesive that fails.

You know I thought about that before I posted the video and was a little lazy to go back and add that into the video. 😂 it opened about 80% of the original height. Opens enough to get everything in. Have not run into issues yet.

@@YuriyMotso I've just ordered this cover. I'm considering taking a cut out of the rail to allow for the trunk lid to lift all of the way. I would only cut the flat piece that extends into the truck bed. I think 5-6" will be sufficient to let the lid lift all of the way. Since it's a single piece of aluminum, it doesn't look like it would have an adverse effect on the performance or water tightness. Thoughts?

I have a similar cover. The mounting rails prevent the bed trunk from opening fully. My 2021 trunk lid hits the mounting rails. Try it.

I just don’t like that it folds up and you lose the most amount of usable real-estate in your trunk. Other than that it’s a nice cover.

I like the idea of no rails. I don't want a cover on, except times when I need it. Rather not have rails sticking out the other 80% of the time.

How does the Hard Roll Up compare to Hard tri-fold durability wise? Would you say Hard Tri-fold would be a better choice for durability?

Honestly they are probably about the same. With a slight edge to the hard tri fold because it’s usually a solid piece of plastic for each of the three folds. The roll up will always have the chance of being punctured but in the end I personally don’t think there is a significant difference to deter from either or. Personally I don’t like tri fold because it takes up more real-estate in the bed, the roll ups take up less space and are generally lighter. If it’s a soft roll up then it takes up 0 space and weighs absolutely nothing.

I just purchase my Sentry CT and having an issue of lining the cover tracks into the rails. It appears to move to the outside of the rail on the driver side and can only lock the passenger side. Any advice cause customer service is not too helpful.

If you have any bubbling issues with the cover, you can just use a pin or something with a small sharp end and lightly poke it and it should rub out.

FYI, AFE has come out with a performance throttle body spacer. It can be used in conjunction with all aftermarket and stock intake systems. As far as I know. They claim 5hp and 10tq over stock.

Yes it’s on my radar. I am curious myself. Have my doubts though. If I had to guess I would bet I would not see any improvement. Seems to me like those gimmick turbo fans you can put in your intake to “increase” power.

@@YuriyMotso I believe it probably provides a minimal gain, but nothing that you would notice from the drivers seat. Maybe combined with the AEM CAI, you might notice something though. I wish we could get an aftermarket air intake scoop. I can't stand that awful looking piece of plastic. I get the whole NVH thing, but come on 🤦‍♂️
