Traxxas has really stepped up in a lot of areas. I wish they would step up their radio game. Something with a digital display. Yes they have the link but I'd like it on the radio without it being a separate unit

So there can be arguments made for both having a built in display on the radio, or using a third party device (mobile phone). With a mobile device you can always change, devices, app updates, connectivity to online. Where if you put a screen in the control the platform is static. It does not change much other than some firmware updates from time to time. It would also increase price of production. A built in screen could also render the entire radio system broken if the display where to fail, go out, etc... it’s just another feature that can possibly break. Then you would have to buy a entire new transmitter. Where if you broke a phone you just need another device connected over Bluetooth and the transmitter still works, plus you can still update in the future and still connect to that controller. If you want to see some examples of why a phone can be bad is early on when traxxas released the xo1 they only had platform support on iOS so only iPhone users could connect to the transmitter and unlock the 100mph. It’s because they relayed too much on a third party device more then the control itself. So yes there are good and bad for both. It’s a balancing act for sure, especially with cost and production

Only thing I don't like about the newer style 4 channel TQ radio is the locker switch position. Unfortunately I already broke mine. I know it's not new but I just got back into the hobby after 6+ years. I didn't have time or money after my 2nd daughter was born.Anywho be careful the switch itself sits higher so if you drop it the switch explodes on the inside. Oops‼️😜 It was literally a week old. I just got my Tactical Unit 😩 But luckily I had my old 4 channel that wasn't working right anyway & stole the switch.
