Great info and very well explained. Not to often get all the basic answers needed in one video. This is very helpful 👍

Great vid...Explained the setup very clearly. The spring is to withstand the static and dynamic loading from the vehicle hence determining the travel range of the suspension. Imagine the vehicle is sitting there not moving, the only parts holding up the car weight is the springs, not the oil. The oil doesn't do anything if the vehicle is motionless. The shock absorbers determine the rebound rate (how fast/slow) of the spring returns after the compression. The heavier oil will still allows the suspension to articulate the full length of the suspension but in slower speed. It depends on how heavy your vehicle is, then setup your spring stiffness. And depending on how your normal driving (suspension travel) speed is, then setup the oil weight. i. e. Trail run speed usually much faster than rock crawling, the speed of suspension traveling up and down is much faster(in milliseconds). Therefore, lighter weight oil will give better and realistic looks in action. Rock crawler in many cases that the loading of the entire vehicle usually acts upon only one or two wheels when it is tilted at extreme angles in longer periods of time (in seconds or longer) . So I guess that's why traxxax put in 30W oil originally. My 2 cents

I put 10wt oil in my TRX4 years ago, so much better. I have no idea why Traxxas and others sell their trucks with such thick oil. They look rubbish in the adverts too - all stiff and toy like - not good marketing! I also put a pretty flexible anti roll bar on the rear wheels to stop the awful body roll you get. I still get full flex, but not the roll or wobble that the TRX4 gets so badly. It was an old Tamiya M01 anti roll bar. Works perfectly.

Hey mate, thanks for excellent video. What do recommend to do with the rear suspension if it's unbalanced left and right. I have a trx4 defender and it sits low on the spare tyre side (right) I have adjusted the preload to balance it out... is this negatively impacting the functionality of the shock/ suspension system. Cheers
