Hi Peter great troubleshooting! This is a first for me normally a diode is either good or open. Very interesting problem and glad the old girl is back working.

Another great video Peter, I really like the way you troubleshoot these radios. What a lot a lot of people don't appreciate is that the fault finding can can be the most time consuming part of repairing equipment and as you demonstrated some faults are hard work to find. I would never have guessed it was a leaking diode but through a process of elimination there it was. keep up the good work mate..

Thank you John, your positive view on my work is very much appreciated! Always admired your professional work as well! And you are right, many people don't understand that changing a part is not the job, it is more over what it takes to find the problem. That is knowledge, experience and time. Take care mate !

This was a fun one. I was guessing ahead of you, my first one was a transistor, and you went to that, then the IC test, when I saw the voltage still there my guess was a diode. I'm getting better watching you. You are a good teacher, very detailed.

Before watching the troubleshooting, my guess is a relay that is supposed to change the radio back to receive mode as soon as the PTT key or other transmit command signal ceases. Edit: I was correct about the relay not functioning properly, but my analysis didn't go deep enough regarding why it was not. Just a 15-cent diode! What a great teaching video!

I could not think ahead of you at all on this one. thinking back, knowing the one diode is the front end that first gets hit, and goes bad, and it suffering, hits the next diode right beside it, one would think, looking near the one always going bad, start there first. but this looked nothing like that. good work peter. I thought it was the chip till you pulled that leg.

16:00 I also understand the TX/RX conmmutation relay of that radio is a critical point due to how that area was projected. The fault of that component could cause that when we press TX switch (MOX or PTT) all the RF power coming from PA unit enters directly to the front-end, bandpass filter and other RX areas causing a disaster. Please Peter, correct me if I'm wrong. (And sorry for my bad english)

Keying transistor is bad or leaking to keep the radio from going back into receive, could be transistor or a leaking diode. or the switching transistor to the relay is staying on on the transmit section of the amplifier. Or it could go all the way back to the processor. Need to trace the circuit all the way back from the relay all the way to the first breakdown voltage is not taken away from the relay. Or you could have checked the keying section of the relay and found out why that power was still going to the relay that should have been shut off by the diode for receive. The exact problem was that the keying transistor was getting power when it was supposed to be in receive and followed it back from there.
