Thank you for your video. I am a Singaporean Hakka, and I learned to speak Hakka from the older generation since I was a child. Although there are many Hakkas in Singapore and Malaysia, young Hakkas have lost the custom of speaking Hakka, and I feel very sad to see this part of our heritage lost. So it's no wonder that when I hear someone conversing in Hakka, I feel a special sense of bonding. After all these years, I realize that my mother tongue is Hakka, not Chinese (Mandarin), and certainly not the English Language which I have been using in school and at work.

@@wt4397 his Hakka is probably the Hor Poh Hakka version. There are many variants of Hakka subdialects that have slight pronunciation difference due to mixing with other local languages after migrating to the south. Further dilution happens when the Hakkas also migrated to other countries like yourself in Sweden, mixing further with local languages. You can always understand partially as a Hakka, but some words will confuse you.

It is quite sad to see Singapore losing a large part of its heritage with the loss of its other spoken dialects, particularly Hakka, Hainanese, Foochew. Singapore would have a very colourful soundscape and enriched cultural experience if these minority dialects have been preserved and used.

Dapu is next door to meixian .. there is some slight Variation in terms of tone .. otherwise it is similar ..

Right, Meixian Hakka says pat. Guess these are minor differences given the geographical boundaries between Meixian and Dapu.

@@XavieYT “mien” 面 in Mandarin has a second tone (upward tone). Hakka ”面” is a downward tone something like a fourth tone. ”包” in Hakka is same as Mandarin.
