Love what your doing here. It got me going to different places here in Huntington and taste test the slaw dogs at every joint. So far Midway in Huntington is my favorite but I'd like to do a trail from here to Charleston and see all the different ones.

In Huntington, the hot dog chili is a sauce, it reminds me of the of the grease that sits on top of the pot when you make chili. Not my favorite, I like a little more meat please. Midway wasn’t bad, 11.50 out of 15.

Having been around, my association with slaw on the hot dog is more of a Carolina thing than a West Virginia thing. My grandma would make a hot dog chili that she would say was an old Clarksburg recipe. The story is that she'd make it on a hot plate in the back of the bar when she was a teenager. By the time there were grandkids, she'd make a couple of big batches in the fall and would can it herself to use thorough the year. Anyway, her chili dog was really great and after leaving the state for nearly 30 years, a simple chili dog is West Virginia to me and just about everyone I know from West Virginia. And with my Carolina connections, it has always been not quite as good chili with sweet slaw. Not to take anything away from your list here. I will be getting some of these hot dogs, but there is at least one major omission to the list. Yann's in Fairmont. Now I really only worry about taste. I wouldn't know if the floor was dirty and when you grow up the way I grew up, you never really worried about what food looked like. If they lost points there, I wouldn't know. But that taste brings me back to when my grandmother could remember who we were. A little spicier than I would have been able to handle when I was a kid, but other than that, nearly spot on. I'm just going to have to chalk it up to slaw being required for consideration on your list, and that's OK, this was still fun and I still like slaw on a hot dog.

I was born and raised in West Virginia and a WV hot dog is not complete unless it has chile mustard and slaw! Sometimes onions.

Out of 284 WV Style Hot Dogs, Morrisons score 12 out of 15 and just missed the list. Parkway scored a little over a 9 out of 15. I hope that you can experience a real high quality West Virginia Hot Dog by driving out of your bubble and you might understand.

I've been to a quarter of these places, and Yann's in Fairmont is better than any of them so. Especially T&L. Yuck. There's a reason so many of them have gone out of business. To each their own I guess.
