I was born and raised in Chicago, but after working 12 years in the financial Industry regulating the futures and options markets at the CME/CBOT I decided to pursue my passion fishing professional tournaments and left my full time corporate job. At that point, I moved to Junction City, WI with my wife Sara and two boys Hank and Duke. I've been fishing professionally since 2011 and full-time since 2015. I've qualified for seven MLF Championships and won over a half million in tournament winnings at the professional level.

Great stuff to share with my most frequent boat buddy as I'm sure it would make us enjoy our day on the water as we catch more fish. Thanks!

🍺Thanks Matt, I agree with your view that the angle of the cast can increase your odds of getting bit. I would like to add and in my opinion is sometimes much more important then the angle of the cast and that is a soft entry into the water. As little a splash as possible. I call it feathering the cast. A low roll cast that you thumb pressure your line to a stop right before it hits the water is not only extremely effective but it also makes you look like a pro.🤠

Agreed. But from the bank, I often deploy "cast past" by going further out w/ heavier mass in order to slowly sneak up on those hanging out between deep to shallow where applicable.

Great video. I fish from the bank and a video like this has taught me to almost start fishing at my feet. I’ll spend maybe 10-15 minutes fishing the bank and 10-15ft off the bank. I used to bomb casts to the middle and work the lure in. Now it’s flip to cover spots or angled / parallel casts along the bank. It has increased my catch count.

This is an excellent video! Since you’re talking about angles and boat position, I wondered if you could do one on “How Bass use submerged bldg foundations, and how to approach & fish them. I am also wondering if bass ever position in front of a current break the way trout will sometimes. The current against the front of a rock or log can create a small “buffer zone” and trout will use these often in mid-stream situations. Anyway, great video. Always enjoy your content! 😃👍🏼

Matt, all of my largemouth from bank fishing were caught while reeling in at angles under 40 degrees from the shoreline. Thank you for this video!

This is why FFS sonar is so valuable … my home waters is just vegetation, no docks, rocks, bluff walls, rip rap, etc - just vegetation. FFS allows me to see 80-100’ in front of me where the submerged weed line drop off is - its a game changer down here

Great video. I love watching videos on the tactics of fishing. Many things I may already do, but the reason is stuck somewhere in the back of my mind and it’s good to pull it forward. Other tips are completely new and I can add them to my game.

Matt I would recommend either using a picture or some sort of a diagram telling where you would cast and why. I think that kind of information would be invaluable to us casual Anglers.
