Pushing the bit back to produce a cut that hides the drawer slides is pure genius!!! I just built a bunch of pull-outs for my kitchen. Wish I had watched this video before I made them. I would have definitely preferred the hidden slide look!

This is indeed THE best way to make drawer boxes. I’ve been doing it for years this way: all you need is glue. Using the small version of this router bit makes it possible to use even thinner boards (I use 9.5 mm. boards). The resulting boxes are just as strong as their thicker counterparts, especially if you use this method for the bottom as well: you can then make the bottom flush with the lower edges of the sides, adding some millimeters to you storage space. Thanks for the video!

I am so glad I found this video. I'm about to make a ton of drawers for my shop, and just hated the idea of having all the slides exposed and/or having the pocket holes exposed. The special router bit isn't cheap, but will easily pay for itself by not having to purchase wood for drawer fronts! Thank you! (And I subscribed for more tips in the future.)

Great point about the cost of wood for drawer fronts!
@choprpilot76
@choprpilot76 8 ай бұрын
@jimparker871, this is a nice method for drawers but more so if making solid wood sides. If you’re using plywood and don’t want to see any exposed wood, then the half/half/half method completely conceals everything, even plywood layers from the front/back pieces.
@CarlYota
@CarlYota 7 күн бұрын
@@choprpilot76 You don't need solid wood sides. You need a solid wood drawer front. You effectively half blind the sides into the front face. All you see from the side is the face grain of the side piece and a bit of end grain of the front piece, which would be hardwood, with this construction.

Great video showing all the options. I would reiterate the importance of the sacrificial fence if planning to use 1/2 plywood. I have been making a ton of simple drawer boxes using 1/2 baltic birch. The zero clearance sacrificial fence is a necessity for preventing tear out on the inside face of the side pieces. The nice thing is you can just save the fence for the next run of drawers.
