I tried it about 20 times just now got the glitch to work 4 times. I'll have to get a timer out and not rely on my counting. I think it's human error on it not working

Use bare hand to mine out dirt block for 9 times and force quit , this helps count without timer

I just did this 5 times jn a row no problem just saving and quitting then copying my world then going in doing the dupe and repeat i was using a hot bar of shulker boxes i suggested putting whatever is in ur hotbar away and doing the dupe the second time with the things in the inventory
