@RhythmAddictedState Жыл бұрын
@@AwesomeFish12 What tf are you talking about. People in the USSR could listen to foreign music during the Soviet Union, it just had to be approved by the government. Sometimes foreign artists held concerts in the Soviet Union. Western music wasn't banned altogether. And music was relatively diverse, not just "traditional music" (which was more classical than trad btw. Hearing actual ethnographic songs from villages was extremely rare). Pop music wasn't bad at all, it was actually very good, with strong melodies etc (I'd say Russian pop music today is generally worse than it was 35 years ago). Even Soviet cartoons and movies had excellent music (classic example: Bremenskiye Muzykanty). Most music was rooted in a well-structured, classical melody tradition though, so at some point a lot of people wanted to hear something fresher (mainly younger people). The problem is that you weren't allowed to be a pro musician and be paid for it unless you were a member of the musician's union of the Soviet Union (a.k.a a government approved musician/composer), which meant you had to go really underground to showcase your music. Even though music in the Soviet Union wasn't as diverse as in some other countries until the mid 80's, it still was great music. Metal that came into the USSR during the Perestroika felt super fresh, which is why a lot of people liked it (and why a lot of Russians are metalheads even today). Metal was associated with freedom and coolness. Doesn't mean that old music was not "real". Stop spreading bs when you know nothing what life is or was like in other countries. Source: I'm Russian

Professor Adrian North at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh has undertaken the largest study to date on the connection between personality and musical preferences. His conclusions? I think this is best to show the shock value of the crowd with the energy and the music, however if you want them to listen to the music a studio production might be a better choice. Great performance, sounds like shit.

The story behind this particular concert makes it so much more meaningful. This isn't just some huge crowd of people enjoying music. These are people who lived their entire life in Soviet dictatorship, where access to outside culture was scarce and illegal. This concert took place during the very last months of the USSR regime. To many people it was a true symbol of the regime coming to an end, and it made it clear that the walls of isolation from outside culture was finally collapsing. These are people who had been longing for freedom to explore new ways of life. So what sounds like a bunch of noise to one person, is deeply meaningful to another.

Remember that time, my uncle's friends and so others were smuggling music through borders, we were illegally listening to western radio stations. Everything was new for us. From that point of view it was great time, very exciting. Obviously not so exciting when we saw army on the streets.

it got very boring for me after awhile, the lack of groove really bothers me now, just soulless the fake metal schtick is the worst part tho, just be yourself instead of trying prove how metal you are by how you look…..it’s become a parody of your itself at this point, why the genre has lost all of its relevance over the years IMO

Thank you so much for reacting to Metallica in Moscow, i spent most of my youth traveling from one music festival to another and have some great memories of those times back in the 1980's and 90's. The guy who said the music was soothing, somebody buy that man a drink because he rocks ;-)

On December 8th, Metallica played a little show south of the border. Way south: the band's set took place inside a dome on the heliport at the Carlini Argentine Base in Antarctica. The performance featured 10 songs and solidified them as the only band to play all seven continents. Dec 23, 2013

What a fantastic video, it was great to watch it and see these nicest people! They are all just so positive and open to new experiences. I really liked them all. It was a bit unfair to show them the biggest concert that ever happened because at least half of their impressions if not more came just from the scale of it. On the other hand, this made me remember how heavy a song Enter Sandman is, how it builds up and slams you hard. Especially in that live performance. If you’ve been listening to all sorts of metal for 25 you kind of forget, but it’s definitely not a “pop sellout” song as many people may try to present it. And at the end of the day this proves what I’ve been thinking lately: that metal is way more popular than most would think. Even here out of 5 people you have 2 new fans, one guy who’s interested, one kind of ok, and only one who would consider it torture. Metal rules!

This is so true. When I was a teenager, when I was mad at my parents and feeling like thrashing my room to pieces, instead I put on something aggressive and noisy, like Pantera - Suicide Note Part 2. It would only take a minute to calm me down. :)

Lovely people. I specially enjoyed the comentary from the young lady who really seem to vibe with the louder more aggressive sounds. Love that. Than the older gentleman who seemed more pragmatic and studied the sound more while describing it as "soothing". Unexpected and pretty cool as well. The humorous comments about the drummer being a "woman with such big drums she should be proud of" and the "heavy weight" comment had me ROTFL. Keep this up TRYBALLS. As an old Canadian metal head myself, I feel like the beautiful lady and the gentleman in the grey shirt and glasses could be friends of mine. They are true rockers at heart. They get it! I loved to see how all of these people reacted to something I love so much. Metal is not for everyone and that's ok, nothing is...except water and oxygen I suppose.
