Trying Adobe Podcast. Should Descript be worried? 🤔

A little over a year ago Adobe launched a project Shasta, which aimed to take on Descript and text-based audio editing apps. Twelve months later, they've removed the project name and opted for: Adobe Podcasts....beta.
I took a look at it today to see how it stacks up against Descript. Its not a fair fight, but you might find Adobe Podcast just right for beginner podcasters.

The second clip sounded the cleanest to me, but I admit that Descript’s studio sound sometimes muffles spoken words when trying to remove background noise.

Thank you so much for this comparison. I use and still plan to use Descript but I don’t care too much for the studio sound either and knew instantly that the first sample you gave was from Adobe enhance. Looks like I’m gonna be using that note for audio clean up. Studio sound is perfect for really short audios or when I record my script on my yeti but otherwise there are times where audio is just distorted and destroyed

Thank you for making this video, it was valuable to me. I am a Descript-user editing podcasts for my clients, moved from Audacity. It serves me quite well, there are lots of good things in Descript, but I am not a fan of Studio Sound as well. Yes, when it is recorded in a good space, it makes it even better. But for reduction of serious background noise I still turn to Audacity first (as @comedy4cast says in another comment). Adobe Podcast seems cool and useful for organizations that use other Adobe-stuff as well. I remember using their Canva-like solution (I believe it's called Spark) in my former 9-5.

Yeah. My audio theater podcast can have up to 15 tracks going, so not a tool for me. BTW, I have tried the audio cleanup quite a few times over the last few weeks, while it has been free, and it just doesn't work for me. I can always hear the AI voice-cloning substitutions. And sometimes they are really head scratching. I mean, the audio I fed in was not that noisy, but when it failed to understand a word it substituted noisy, garbled sound, rather than leave the audio alone because it has to maintain that noiseless background. To my ear it also seems to suck the life out of the voice just to make it "clean". Descript seems to basically do traditional noise removal while preserving the original audio. I could hear the room echo cut in and out. In a lot of cases, a simple pass though Audacity would give you a better result than either of these. Thank you for the video!

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Adobe since they always seem to monopolize the creative market. But I suppose more competition among similar products can be a good thing for prices and features. It just feels like Adobe realized they were losing marketshare to Canva users, so they decided to make a clone version called Adobe Express, and now they're losing the AI race so they're making a clone version of Descript. I can't shake the feeling that it always seems to be reactive with Adobe and "borrowing" ideas, rather than innovating much on their own.
