I advise you ask locals how they eat a certain meal before you eat it yourself. Every country has their own way of eating food like cooking. First, the cold dessert that you ate is different from what your usual cold desserts in the US. It's called halo halo which means mixing together. You really have to mix all the ingredients together as the upper part of the dessert is plain crushed ice and milk. The sugar is at the bottom. So you have to dig all the parts from the bottom up to appreciate the taste. Second, all meals should be eaten with rice and a dipping sauce. That's an absolute rule in Filipino cuisine. You don't eat them individually. The rice is so important as it balances the strong flavors of the ulam or the other meal. Third, always ask locals which dips go with that food. Not all dipping sauces are the same. They are important to accentuate the flavors of the meal.

As a proud American-Filipino, I really enjoyed watching you two try Filipino food. Especially food I grew up eating. The one Filipino food I never really liked eating when I was younger, but enjoy now that I’m older is Sinigang (Sin-ni-gang). It’s a tamarind soup base that is sour, but works really well with pork because of the fattiness; with a mix of vegetables. The soup pairs really well with plain white/jasmine rice. Very tasty on a cold day or when you’re not feeling well. 2nd Filipino dish I would so recommend trying is Silog (Filipino breakfast). Si being sinangag (garlic fried rice) and ilog being itlog (egg); paired with a protein. So pretty much a meat dish with garlic fried rice and a fried egg. Anyways, hope to see more Filipino foodie videos! 😎👍🏻

As a filipino 🇵🇭, I am glad and it made me happy for trying our yummy food with positive comments. The Puto (in the middle is the cheese). The other desert is Halo- Halo (the purple on top is called purple yam), it can also top with lecheplan, and sometimes we put langka (jackfruit). I recommend you to try Jollibee next❤️❤️

Is it just me or do I always love watching your vids and making me smile 🙂🥰❤️
@pabita1082 жыл бұрын
Halo-halo literally means mix-mix so mix everything. The ice cream is ube (purple yam, a staple to Filipino desserts). A lot of sweet beans, jelly, tapioca, sometimes banana, jackfruit is also added. Anthony Bourdain loved it when he came here and tried it from a local street vendor. The first dish you tried is sisig (another Anthony Bourdain fave, usually comes in a sizzling plate and paired with beer), traditionally made from pig’s face and made better when you squeeze the calamansi on it, the small “lime” which is another staple when we make dips. We love dunking our pork in vinegar or squeezing calamansi to cut the fatty taste and balance it out. Lumpia - Egg rolls can be cooked with pork or chicken, sometimes also mixed with a bit of shrimp. Everything you ate we usually eat with rice so it can be a main meal and not just an appetizer. Puto - (bad word for Latinos afaik LOL) but it’s just steamed rice cake. I usually put butter or cream cheese on it after reheating. Pansit - (pronounced as PAN-SIT) are rice noodles cooked with veggies and you can put any protein you want on it. Good thing you squeezed the calamansi on it coz some forget that.

First time for me to watch a video of yours. As a Filipino, I'm glad you enjoyed our food. Many comments though. 1. Halo-halo has to be mixed thoroughly before you eat, including the ice cream and flan. 2. Egg in sisig has to be mixed in too. Best eaten with rice. Also good as bar chow with beer. 3. BBQs also best eaten with rice. 4. There are various kinds of lumpia. The one you had is specifically called Lumpiang Shanghai. 5. Puto is rice cake. It's nice to reheat it over steam and put butter on it as you eat it (yeah, like bread). We also often pair it with another dish called 'dinuguan' which is made with pig's blood. Sounds scary but it's really good. 6. I think what came with the pancit was toasted garlic bits which you spread over the dish. After squeezing the lime over the noodles, everything has to be mixed up before eating so that all the flavors blend. 7. Other signature Filipino dishes to try: chicken-pork adobo, pork sinigang, chicken tinola, oxtail kare-kare, garlic butter shrimps, monggo guisado, and banana turon (dessert).

Hi guys I'm from the Philippines🇵🇭 and Halo-halo literally means Mix-mix in English so you basically Mix first everything with a spoon before eating or drinking it and the little lime in sisig is called calamansi and preferably Filipino squish it around the sisig w/o the seed and mix it again so that the toppings like mayo will mix on the flavor and the traditional puto is made with rice flour and pancit is never missing in every filipinos birthday and other occasions because we believe that if you have pancit every bday means you will have a long life like it's pasta(long)☺️ Please try the traditional Filipino viands also like adobo, kare-kare, menudo, afritada, crispy pata or lechon kawali, tapsilog and etc. with rice because we always eat our viands with rice.😁 Overall, as a Filipino It's very overwhelming seeing contents like these in yt and appreciating our foods and culture! Hope you'll try it again eating in our traditional way☺️ Thank you!

So the halo-halo is a tricky treat to have. You have to mix evrything before consuming it, translated to english it literally means “hodge-podge”. The concoction made from shaved ice and all the treats inside makes up the distinct halo-halo flavour. It’s overflowing because it has shaved ice and if mixed well before opening, it would have decreased in volume inside the plastic cup because the ice would have melted a bit which is natural and actually how it should be consumed anyway and not with unmixed and therefore unflavored shaved ice

It was funny to watch Mariah sitting with one knee on the chair and her arm on top. That's a typical Filipino posture when eating food at home or at a beach hut. Next time you try getting Filipino food, ask for any of the following: beef caldereta (stew with beef, vegetables, and liver spread); bistek tagalog (beefsteak with onion rings); crispy pata (deep-fried pork hocks/knuckles); sinigang with beef/pork/shrimp; beef kare-kare (peanut butter sauce) plus bago-ong (sauteed salty shrimp paste); mung bean (munggo) porridge; adobong sitaw (stringbeans cooked adobo style); ginata-ang kalabasa (squash cooked in coconut milk); for dessert, try tropical buko (coconut) fruit salad or buko pandan gelatin or leche flan (egg yolk custard).

Halo Halo means Mix Mix, so u need to mix everything to taste the whole thing. Purple one is the UBE or Purple Yam. If youre not a bean lover, we normally request it to not put it on our order. Small lime is called calamansi, is a Philippine Lime. Sisig is made out of pig’s face and belly. it includes liver, ears, etc. We normally mix it with egg, and mostly eaten during a drinking session of beer. Puto is a rice cake, with cheese on top of it. It’s one of our favorite snack. Pancit are rice noodles, we serve it with calamansi. I highly suggest trying SINIGANG na BABOY, Kare-kare, and crispy pata.

@@sandybar728 Right???!!!!!!! Foreigners will continue to buy and eat Halo-halo (it is that good!!!) if their first experience is done right. Isn't repeat business a concept that Filipino business owners not practice? My friends' thought H-H was gross at first when they tried it the improper way. After I've let them have it the Filipino way (mix it all together before eating,) they can't get enough of it. They drive out of their way to get one as often as they can. It is annoying that every time I watch someone eat Halo-halo, I get so disappointed when they end up not liking it because they eat it the non-usual way.

The one on the middle is cheese. Pork and chicken bbq : we consider them Street foods here and a traditional food for lunch and dinner. Lumpia : it's filipino spring rolls made of ground pork and vegetables. Pancit : its a traditional food used to serve on special occasions like Birthdays, Christmas, Fiestas.. The halo in the word halo-halo in english is mix so basically you have to really mix everything up first so that all ingredients and sugar of the halo-halo are all well mixed before you take them and it will be more delicious. The sisig, you have to mix them all well also first so that the flavors of the meat, egg & kalamansi (small lime) would combine, and they great to eat with rice. The pansit you also have to mix all first before eating and they would taste better, also good with rice.

Wow thank you for trying our own delicacies 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭 I'd like to give brief description for the food you tried. Halo-halo --> means "mixed" that's why it has to be mixed before eating to get that full flavor of the dessert... made with crushed ice along with milk and different types of sweet components including leche flan(caramel custard/pudding). btw the purple one is called "ube jam" 💜 Sisig --> basically made out of chopped pig parts, chopped onions and chillies seasoned with vinegar and calamansi (lime). it is commonly served in a sizzling plate topped with egg. Lumpia (my favorite) --> a finger food all Filipino loves.. actually there are different types of lumpia, but this we call it lumpiang shanghai.. local version of fried spring roll filled with pork/chicken and some veggies (we serve this mostly in all occasions) and yeah you're right it's often served as appetizers😊... for all the reviews I watched on YT I've never seen anyone who dislikes lumpia ❤️😘 chicken/pork BBQ (pork/chicken skewers) --> made of pork/chicken slices marinated in a sweet BBQ sauce and skewered in bamboo sticks then grilled. puto (poo-to) --> traditionally made from ground glutinous rice. This is a type of "kakanin (rice cake)" pls try other types of kakanin e.g. biko, suman, bibingka. pancit (puhn-sit) --> Filipino stir fried noodles basically with meat, shrimp, and veggies. note that there are various kinds of pancit(noodles) here in the Philippines, this one is called pancit bihon. and I recommend you to try more Filipino authentic dishes, bcs you are missing a lot! 😭 1. Adobo 2. Crispy pata 3. Pancit palabok 4. Sinigang 5. Longganisa 6. Kare-kare 7. Bicol express (if you love spicy food) 8. Taho 9. turon 10. Empanada Again thank you for showing a lot of affection to our food, we love you! You just gain new subscriber! ❤️🇵🇭

Yasssss Bill rated my guilty pleasure and favorite food (Pancit) 10 out of 10, I was like, bro, you and I have the same taste in food. lol 😅
Halo-halo, officially spelled haluhalo, Tagalog for "mixed," is a popular cold dessert in the Philippines made up of crushed ice, evaporated milk or coconut milk, and various ingredients including ube jam (ube halaya), sweetened kidney or garbanzo beans, coconut strips, sago, gulaman (agar), pinipig, boiled taro or soft yams in cubes, flan, slices or portions of fruit preserves and other root crop preserves. The dessert is topped with a scoop of ube or mango ice cream. It is usually prepared in a tall clear glass and served with a long spoon. Halo-halo is considered to be the unofficial national dessert of the Philippines. The term "halo-halo" translates to "mixed" in English because the dessert is meant to be mixed before being consumed. This spelling has come to describe any object or situation composed of a similar, colorful combination of ingredients.

That definitely looked authentic if you ask me! Just some additional info, halo halo is normally mixed before eating. Halo in english means mix. I personally mix it until the ice and milk sort of become one. Pancit is pronounced pan-sit. The crunchy crumbly topping is crushed up chicharon or fried up pork rinds or belly. The little lime is a native lime found in the philippines called calamansi. The fact that the restaurant made the effort to source out calamansi is another sign that they are authentic 😊

Sisig - is a Filipino dish made from parts of a pig's face and belly, and chicken liver which is usually seasoned with calamansi, onions, and chili peppers. Sisig is a good pair with white rice, garlic rice or fried rice. Lumpia - is mixed with ground pork along with minced onions, carrots, and seasonings such as salt and ground black pepper. Puto - is a Filipino steamed rice cake, traditionally made from slightly fermented rice dough. Pansit- uses “Bihon” or rice noodles mixed with pork, chicken, and vegetables sometime they add some seafood. You should squeeze some lime and mixed it before eat it.

Try Bulalo soup, the bone marrow soup and also the Crispy Pata. You'll never regret it. I've noticed that Mariah's one feet is raised on a chair, that's how old Filipinos eat in front of the table. What a coincidence.😊
