Would you try this deadly fish?? There's a holiday here in Egypt which started over 4,500 years ago, and is still being celebrated today. On this day, Egyptians love to eat Fseekh, a fermented fish that has also been eaten for thousands of years. Today, I tried that fish. And let me tell you....
Want to donate to the channel? You can buy me a shawarma! 😂 But really, I just found out this website "buy me a coffee" exists and created an account, because, well, why not? I really just appreciate your support by watching my videos and I'm not asking you to donate, but, if you feel like it, now there's a place you can. Donations will probably just go to me making more street food videos. Here's the link: www.buymeacoffee.com/gventures
Welcome to the channel! I'm Egyptian (born & bred) and I can never get myself to be anywhere near the unbearable smell of feseekh, let alone eat it 😂 Like the Durian fruit, feseekh is one of those extremely polarizing foods I guess, locals either love it or hate, there's no in-between 😀 I personally stand by my steadfast aversion to feseekh 😂 the overpowering fermentation stench is just not for me 😂

@@Gventures Bless your heart! I hope your upcoming video about Coptic Christians highlight THE FACT that all Egyptians can be considered descendants of Pharaohs, Coptic Christians can be thought of as "the natives of Egypt" like united states' native tribes. Under Al-Hakim BeÁmr Allah "aka Al-Mansour Ben Abdel Aziz, aka Abu Ali" 985 A.D to 1021 A.D; Coptic Christians were ORDERED to stop using the Coptic language "which is derived from Hyroglifics" in daily communications, and use the Arabic language instead, and to make sure NOBODY speaks Coptic language anymore, Al-Hakim BeÁmr Allah ORDERED cutting tongues of ANYONE caught speaking the Coptic language, hence "effectively" eradicated Coptic Christians' language that hardly spoken by Coptic Christians in this time and age, except in some church mass services.

And it all makes up the modern language we speak now in Egypt. And the is more and more on this fascinating topic!

The thing is and If I may provide an advice, I wouldn't really recommend visiting Egypt during the peak of summer which is June, July, August, till mid September I believe, , the weather during these months is really hot and it may affect how you will enjoy the activities or outings in general, so I would recommend visiting later on in the Autumn, spring or winter, the weather is really good then and you will love it.

Wow, for someone who hasn't tried it before , you are so brave . Egyptians get used to fesiekh from a young age , not every Egyptian like it and you will find 7/10 who really enjoy it. Mostly, we try it once a year and we do really eat it on certain occasions from time to time, Like once or twice a year. The proper way to eat it is by cutting it in half, remove bones squeeze lemon on it . Ringah " Smoked Herring " is a North East Atlantic fish and there is a Dutch way of smoking it by using a certain type of wood that gives it this Special smoky taste and this " Yellow Color " . Don't forget that Most have eggs inside " fish roe " and they tase really well, same as caviar ! The proper way to eat is by 1- Put it above the flame and heat it for 10 seconds on both sides (Optional) . 2-Cutting it in half and remove any bones 3-Squeeze some Lemon 4-add Vinigar and some cumin 5-You eat it with tomatoes/green onions/cucumber You can ask the shop to fillet the fish and do all these steps for you.

Why do you try "fesikh" or salted fish? It is difficult for us Egyptians to bear. Some of us have been accustomed to eating it since childhood. It is not necessary for you to try it, and why does the store not clean it, prepare it, remove the forks, and clean it so that it is ready to eat? You can try smoked "renga fish" herring, it tastes good

Many years later, after moving to USA, It was almost impossible to find fesiekh in US. Couple of years ago, I decided to make my own fesiekh. I used Mackerel fish instead of Mullet fish. I hope the upcoming video about Coptic Christians highlights THE FACT that all Egyptians can be considered descendants of Pharaohs, Coptic Christians can be thought of as "the natives of Egypt" like united states' native tribes. Under Al-Mansour Ben Abdel Aziz, aka Al-Hakim BeÁmr Allah/Abu Ali" 985 A.D to 1021 A.D; Coptic Christians were ORDERED to stop using the Coptic language "which is derived from Pharaohs' Hyroglifics" in daily communications and use the Arabic language instead. To make sure NOBODY speaks Coptic language anymore, Al-Hakim BeÁmr Allah ORDERED cutting tongues of ANYONE caught speaking the Coptic language, hence "effectively" eradicated Coptic Christians' language that hardly spoken by Coptic Christians in this time and age, except in some churches' mass services.

Haha awesome video! Your facial expression when you had your first bite of Fesekh is priceless lol! But this doesnt count though cause you ate it completely wrong. The skin of the fish should of been removed and only the meat should be placed in a plate or bowl, immersed in olive oil, lots of lemon juice, small pieces of onion and bell pepper cut on top of it and mixed well..then eat the fesekh inside a piece of bread and enjoy! I advice you to buy the fesekh from any store that sells it "ready to eat". you will not hate it as much trust me lol! plus, always wear gloves when you eat fesekh because if you don't the smell will stick to your fingers for hours! but anyways great video i enjoy your vlogs in Egypt a lot :)

Oh Gisselle, you are just so brave... and all in the name of culture and custom!! Your classic line about the Fseekh was at 7:33 when you said... "The worst year on record was in 1991 when 18 people actually died from eating this fish... so let's try it"!!! 🤣 Quickly changing the subject to the Ringa/smoked herring, you may know that smoked herring is sometimes eaten in the UK for breakfast, especially in my home country of Scotland, where they are called kippers!! They are traditionally split from head to tail down the 'dorsal ridge' and 'hinged open', which is normally how they are sold in shops. I haven't had a kipper for a while now that I am living in Spain, but my choice of cooking them is poaching or boiling them for a short time. They are so tender, fleshy, full of flavour, and can be served with a knob of butter. Nice!! Your video was both honest and brutal 🥴but highly enjoyable!! Your eating of the Fseekh was agony to watch, and only through my fingers held up to my face in horror!! 😀William

Thank you William! Yeah this video was fun to make, even if horrible to taste 🤣 I didn't actually know they ate smoked herring for breakfast in Scotland! You know I would (of course) try it 🤣

The hard part is getting the stench out of your clothes and if you did that at home, out of the walls and the furniture. My beloved late parents loved fiseek, but I wouldn’t allow that stuff in my house. The ringa is a little more palatable but I will pass on that too.
