Finally managed to get out to the back of the Island this week, it has been really difficult of late due to the weather. I was busting to get into a bass, and managed to get some crab to throw out on my new bass rod from Zulcron Sports.

Yeah I've been a bit slim on the old bass this year. I've had a few but not as many as previous years. I think you're right though. Time to give up on the crab, and switch to mackerel. Do you bother with crab this time of year at all🎣👍👍

Thanks mat, it's funny you say that, because I went there to get out of the wind🤣🤣, it's a cracking rod, I'm taking it out tonight, and probably making a mistake by trying it at Vic, but off the beach towards fort Albert. 5oz grippers, until dark, then 3oz mackerel head for a bass. Always found long strips of cuttlefish works well down there. But also had more luck heading around the point towards Brook in Sudmore bay. You get cut off in a big tides on the point, so need waders or stick it out till the tide drops. Need to walk the cliff at low tide to see the clear areas. But can produce some nice Bass/Conger, and not to many Dogfish.😂

Hey buddy, I have mate, but not for very long🤣🤣, to be honest, after watching other people, and even experienced anglers getting bird nests etc, I feel for me there is too much to think about. Fixed is far simpler, for me anyway. Bailing arm open, whack it. Fish on, just reel it in🤣🤣🎣👍👍

Unlucky mate....You can't catch if they ain't feeding 😪.. Looks like a pucker rod ...I just googled them...and they certainly have a good write up ,and a pretty good price tag...I'm sure those Bass will be along soon.... Gonna be trying our local estuary again soon ....Ragworm is king up there,...then sandeel, crab ,and mackerel in summer...

Thanks buddy, so far I'm really liking it, but it's a bit too early to tell, and haven't exactly had a stinking fish on it yet 🤣, yeah I watch a few guys in Wales, and all they use is blow lug on those big open beaches. So strange how it's so different depending on where you are, matching the bait etc, what works in one place doesn't somewhere else. I guess that's where the local knowledge and experience really comes in👍🎣🎣

Been fishing for years ,but had to knock it over the last few years...But it's a new year ,and my little boy is up for it ,so either way ,fish or no fish...we'll have an adventure 😀. Had 2 bass last year on foraged peelers...Had been using rubbers shads etc ,but the flow etc wasn't doing me any favours ...so I went rummaging around the rocks and found a few reasonable soft crabs.. Bang...on a running leger ,2 casts 2 fish...so crab will be coming...But lots of other species here love the ragworm.... Like you say ,matching the hatch ,and location, and local knowledge is definitely key... Hope you christen the new rod 👍🙏... .

I don’t think you had the wrong bait,especially for this time of year, if there had been any bass about down there I’m sure they would have taken the crab. Hello buddy love your perseverance mate, don't think you did anything wrong with bait choice just no fish in front of you on this occasion, just a observation mate, look at Tom's bait ups, the hook is either the same width or slightly wider than the bait ie on the size of bait you were using 6/0 wouldn't have been to big, there's less chance of the bait slipping out of the mouth without hook up, not a criticism my friend just an observation, take care Dylan n tight lines

hi bud ..bass dont care what bait it is there a scavenger fish if bass are there abd u have a bait in the water they will take it no matter what it is.. ive had decent bass in close by the boat hohse cafe at fort vic at different times and they where decent size to take home and 1 had chicken leg bones in its stomach that some people that where having a picnic about 100 yards down the beach and throwing the bones in the water and another time when i took a bass home from same place it had a clear plastic bic pen with with the blue lid still on in its stomach..i suppose it may of thought it was a sand eel ..still another great video bud..tight lines..🎣💚

Yeah that's what I figured, but I know a few people will only use certain baits at certain venues for bass, and I guess it depends on time of year. One of my mates always takes chicken when he goes bassing🤣🤣, but not pens🤣🎣👍👍

yeah i know a guy that only uses mackerel heads and has log books of the last 10+ years of every time he fished (only ever fished for bass) of date ,times weather,moon and tides ect..hes biggest ever bass was from shore and it was a double at night of the slipway at colwell right where the 3 big concrete blocks that on the beach..

Hi Dylan maybe worth you having a try fishing a estuary for Bass I have caught a few while flounder fishing recently by fishing single rag on one rod and a single blow lug on the other rod

Hey mate, it really is a nice rod, I tend to use it for any light work, but I did catch a 13lb hound on it, which was great fun. It is 13ft so longer than most bass rods, and therefore it is a bit heavier. I just weighed it and it's 560ish grams. Casting is 150 plus bait, again heavier than most. I have used it for freelining, bait and no lead, and had to hold it most of the session, and it was fine. It was a toss up between this and the daiwa tournament pro bass, but I opted for this because I think it would be used more for other types of fishing, I hope that helps buddy 👍🎣🎣

No worries mate, so there is a swivel in the middle of the bar, that's where you attach your snood, then there is a little clip that you pull back to install the lead, I'll show it next time I use it👍🎣🎣
