simple rules for German food 1. fills you up 2. Smells good 3. Tastes good 4. looks good (not required) A lot of people complain about the look of German food, but it's not about the looks, it's about the fact that it does the other 3 things

German food doesn't look good, and is the less spicy, and bad smelling food in the world. Most meat is just cooked, and they use types of cabbage, that it looks and of course smells really bad. What you eat there is not every day foot only. And do we have to talk about all the sausage? Cabbage is still healthy but all the sausages... And I know it cause I had to grow up with that traditional german kitchen..

Rouladen are typically filled with onion pickle bacon and mustard (optional carrot and or horseradish)

The ball is a bread dumpling and the green thing in the roulade is a pickle not a zuccini. Roulden is a great choice for this weather. Its also eaten at easter or other festive holidays. I like it more with red cabbage but mashed potato is fine too.

@@BebeBleau its basicly thin beef rolled with bacon, a pickle, onions, mustard, pepper, salt. And of course gravy, thats why it takes some time to make and you wouldnt make this for just one person at home.

Rouladen (the beefy rolled stuff) shouldn’t be confused with Rolladen (window blinders)! That other food seems to be Schweinshaxe (grilled pork knuckle), with Servietten-Knödel, a dumpling of course best with gravy. And yes, if whatever food is their specialty, they are aware that it will get ordered a billion times a day, and for that reason alone they have it already prepared. That’s why you’re getting it that fast, and these two meals are perfect for that!

I'll make the roulades on the left plate tomorrow. The meat is already pickled and wrapped, tomorrow it will be stewed, and there will be dumplings, which you had on the right plate, then red cabbage with apple. I braise the roulades in red wine with onions, cloves, bay leaves and juniper, Grüße aus Deutschland, Greetings from Germany
