Personally I really like the hoppy and fruity beers. At this moment I’m enjoying one of the beers you’ve reviewed, the Remmarlöv Lupo. And I can agree with you on, especially it smelling very fruity with hints of lemon and honey. However when tasting it isn’t sweet at all and more towards the bitter and malty side. That was a very pleasant surprise!

It's a great beer! I need to order more of this style (usually not available on the store shelves), especially with the warmer weather. ☀️

In the US, none of these beers would be considered as IPLs. IPL is generally accepted as a big hoppy/fairly bitter IPA but made with a lager yeast and are around at least 6% abv. Brooklyn Lager is based on the Vienna Lager style, the Longboard Lager is a basic easy-drinking lager, the Italian Pils is its own subgenre of pilsner, etc. A regular lager can be dry hopped but isn't automatically an IPL. Oh, and picking up on buttery notes might be diactetyl, usually accompanied by a slick mouthfeel, and is a big flaw common in lagers if things don't go well or production is rushed. But a good wide review of lagers and a fun episode nonetheless!

Thanks for adding that context! I went with Systembolaget's own labeling ("Modern Style / India Pale Lager"). It would be interesting to try some "real" Amercian IPLs, do you have any favorites? Hopefully some of them are available in Sweden...

@@SwedishBeerGuy Ah, well then i take issue with Systembolaget! lol. These days, a "cold IPA" is mostly the kind of IPL that I see - i'd look for those, and i don't see any of them sticking around long enough that i can remember the names. Cold IPA (are lagers, not ales lol) are usually made with lager yeast (but some with Norwegian kveik ale strains), and specifically have a very clean malt body with little or no caramel malts. I haven't seen an old school IPL in a while. Hope that's clear, gets a bit confusing to try to put into text, especially after a few...lol cheers!

Butterscotch in beer is seen as an "off flavour". It's usually caused by the presence of diacetyl. What was the mouthfeel of these beers? Interesting to watch.

I'm glad you asked that question because that is something I need to learn more about! By mouthfeel you mean the texture of the beer? If it's light or full bodied, how much carbonation, things like that?
