You know what i think is one of the most amazing parts about Japan is how CLEAN everything is. There would be no way I would sleep on a pod bus in the US cause it would be covered in disgusting germs from the previous passengers, in Japan they KNOW how to clean. Even their public restrooms are cleaned constantly. There's actually a movie about a toilet cleaner in Japan. As a germ phobish person this is deeply satisfying to me. LOL

I backpacked through a lot of Japan for 2 weeks last February and had an amazing time! I stayed at some really nice places and saw some amazing stuff! I just wish I had practiced my Japanese more before going! Next time I'm going to make sure I can speak and read enough to really enjoy the experience.

Osaka to Tokyo, I never took the coach as it takes over 10hrs, as with bullet train it's very expensive unless you buy a japan pass in advance before you leave to Japan but it has to be purchased outside Japan as it's only for foreigners. However, I did fly domestic with Skyflyer and it works out much cheaper than bullet train and coach, takes less than 2hrs.

So much of the Japanese stuff is familiar to me because I lived most of my life in Hawaii, and the modern weird snacks are only in a couple of stores in Honolulu, but much of the older more classic stuff is familiar. Like that powder you put on the raindrop cake looked like kinako, a soy powder, used as a topping for sweets. Sweets aren't that sweet in Japan.
